Nope, don’t find it odd at all. It’s on the gauge cluster

Maybe it's to not have something extraneous exposed to weather? Agree the aesthetic may be off without at night

You might be on to it. Hose down the interior below the dash and a lit shiter might short out.

But it is not like you have D 2 L there is only D and M after neutral and it takes extra effort to hit M.

What I do find odd is the side of the shifter location for manual selection. On the front of the know or on steering wheel would make more sense

There's your biggest problem, and really outlines the shoddy state of drivers on American roadways today.

What competent driver is going to make a 2-3 or 4-5, or any shift for that matter and worry about what if they are in reverse or drive?

You shift by feel once you're over the age of 16 and know what you're doing. If "driving" an automatic is so difficult you have to have the dumb-stick backlit for you (because looking at the instrument cluster is beyond your physical capacities?) then this is a great way of keeping the bottom 1% of drivers off the roadway.

This 9 year old can drive a 13-speed without issue, Bronco drivers are setting the bar well below this.
Lmao why so mad? Some people just want the letters lit up. So what. Not everyone wants to be a big ol tough man who needs to fiddle with a stick all day

I was surprised at first myself, and going from a fusion where theres that little wheel shifter back to the stick, it honestly took me about 2-3 trips and now I can do it with my eyes closed. Or just look on the dash to double check lol

Auto (and manual 99% of the time) shifters have been the same pattern for years. Do you look down when you move the shifter?

I like the fact you can use the manual toggle switch even in “D”. And the gear selection appears in the instrument panel display. I’ve been using it to downshift at times just to play around and to stay off the brakes approaching traffic lights. I know, I know, brakes are cheaper than transmissions.

here's an option that's real clear on gear selection from a early 1960's Mopar product, the old push button gear selector

It’s part of what makes the Bronco interior look and feel cheap. That paint won’t last long.

I feel that overall Ford could have made both the esthetics and the tactile feel of the transmission shifter and the trim plate a lot better. There are nice aspects to it but that button to unlock the shifter has a such a flimsy, plasticky feel and the painted P R N D M is just sad looking.

I am going to back light mine as there are times, depending on the wheel possistion im unable to see it on the dash. should be simple enough to do oncethe weather is better(not -30)

Does anyone else find it odd the shifter knob is PRND is not backlit?
Yes, extremely odd ! I’ve never seen a car not light up. I only had my bronco for three days now and I just noticed it as I’m in the Lowe’s parking lot and looked down and saw this doesn’t illuminate. How on earth did they get that past safety inspection?

I think it is very strange. Even my 65 mustang has shifter lights.
