Nope, don’t find it odd at all. It’s on the gauge cluster

You might be on to it. Hose down the interior below the dash and a lit shiter might short out.Maybe it's to not have something extraneous exposed to weather? Agree the aesthetic may be off without at night
Lmao why so mad? Some people just want the letters lit up. So what. Not everyone wants to be a big ol tough man who needs to fiddle with a stick all dayThere's your biggest problem, and really outlines the shoddy state of drivers on American roadways today.
What competent driver is going to make a 2-3 or 4-5, or any shift for that matter and worry about what if they are in reverse or drive?
You shift by feel once you're over the age of 16 and know what you're doing. If "driving" an automatic is so difficult you have to have the dumb-stick backlit for you (because looking at the instrument cluster is beyond your physical capacities?) then this is a great way of keeping the bottom 1% of drivers off the roadway.
This 9 year old can drive a 13-speed without issue, Bronco drivers are setting the bar well below this.
I like this idea. I suspect we'll see some folks come up with some much nicer OEM replacements. One in brushed aluminum would be sweet. It does look like the letters are pretty cheaply painted on but I'm wondering if this would look better:

I feel that overall Ford could have made both the esthetics and the tactile feel of the transmission shifter and the trim plate a lot better. There are nice aspects to it but that button to unlock the shifter has a such a flimsy, plasticky feel and the painted P R N D M is just sad looking. It’s part of what makes the Bronco interior look and feel cheap. That paint won’t last long.

Yes, extremely odd ! I’ve never seen a car not light up. I only had my bronco for three days now and I just noticed it as I’m in the Lowe’s parking lot and looked down and saw this doesn’t illuminate. How on earth did they get that past safety inspection?Does anyone else find it odd the shifter knob is PRND is not backlit?
