Excited to install the trackbar relocation kit today but hit a snag immediately.

I cannot remove the trackbar bolt. I have the ICON adjustable trackbar if that helps.

The nut on the backside just spins, and there’s some metal surrounding it so I cannot fit a wrench or socket to hold it.

What am I missing here?

That worked - thank you. But now I’ve hit a bigger problem…The bolt provided by RockJock for the trackbar is 5/8” while the hole in the ICON trackbar is 1/2”.

Just when I thought I’d finally get an easy project. So frustrated right now after not realizing the sizing issue until getting ready to finalize the last step.

Wow, I'd be pretty irritated with that.

For the short term, you should be able use your factory trackbar and send that POS back to ICON.

Are you sure that you don't have the trackbar backwards?

It’s strange, right? Reading the ICON instructions it says to reuse the factory bolts. But the factory bolts should’ve fit snug on the OE Trackbar, which had a 5/8” “hole.” The shop that did the install must’ve replaced the passenger side bolt with a 1/2” bolt.

So, off to the store to buy a 1/2” wide 3.5” long and matching nut. Hopefully that won’t be an issue

Omg wait a minute. I went to check how snug the 1/2” bolt was on the ICON and when I pulled it back this little sleeve slipped off. Now the 5/8” bolt fits. But there’s a huge gap between the bracket and the track bar. Now you can see where my finger is in the picture.

This is why I stopped DIY but if I did it to begin with I would have more of a clue.

The factory bolts will be metric.

Oh so you need a spacer that is missing. And I would never use that shop again if they had replaced the bolt with a 1/2” bolt. They suck.

Okay, so there IS a spacer missing, right? I’m hitting up ICON to see if they can send me one, or point me in the right direction because I have no clue what I’m looking for.

So true about the shop. This thread is started with a different issue caused by them - when they went with the smaller bolt they used a smaller nut that doesn’t “catch” on the little nut-stopper in the very first picture. That lead to a series of other issues. But why would ICON include the 5/8” to 1/2” sleeve/spacer in the first place?

This whole thing has left me pretty frustrated - all for a little trackbar relocation, too. Nothing even fun!

Yes, you are missing a spacer and Ace Hardware will have a spacer that will fit a 5/8 bolt. 5/8 bolt is almost identical diameter to a 16 mm which is what it had from the factory and in fact, my rock jock relocation kit uses a 5/8” bolt. The nuts are not interchangeable though because the thread pitch is different.

Thank you. I know I’m leaning on you a lot right now, but any chance you could point me to the specific product I’m looking for? Searching Ace Hardware’s website yields no results for what I’m thinking it would look like.

edit: Something like this, right? I would go for the assortment because I’m not sure the specific amount of gap to fill https://www.speedwaymotors.com/5-8-...Yx9U_62A3xF3JyD9PtXOEUAu3Dp-z3jQaAuhfEALw_wcB

Those are thin walled spacers, I would rather have something with a thicker wall. Like the one in your hand in one of your pictures. Just measure the gap you need to fill and take the bolt with you to the hardware store.

If worse comes to worse, just stack some fender washers or flat washers up to whatever thickness you need. Not ideal, but gets you going relatively safely. A ~very~ small gap won't hurt anything, but you don't want it so snug it can't rotate either.

I'd also add - if you are getting hardware, I'd go get the proper 16mm bolt/nut (grade 10.9) so it catches in the housing properly too - will make putting it back together a lot easier.

A 5/8” bolt is only .005” smaller than 16mm. (5 thousandths of an inch). So will work if you can’t find a 16mm long enough. Rock Jock supplies a 5/8” bolt because it’s easier (and probably cheaper) to source.
