When I see a 4x4 with shiny tires it always reminds me of a pro athlete in a Tux. Feels forced and little uncomfortable

This is my first SUV with 4WD. And also first SUV with large 35" tires.

My question is, what does everyone do about tire shine? When the dealer delivered it, there was slop all over the tires. Way more than I usually put on a vehicle. With the size of these tires, the amount of tire shine you have to put on to cover them is considerable. And that tire shine, well a good bit of it ends up on the car.

So what is the general consensus with Broncos, Jeeps/off-road vehicles. Is it just a given that we don't put any sort of tire shine or tire treatment on? I personally think it does look nice to have a deep black (but not glossed up) tire. But at the same time, the amount of slop that you have to apply along with what gets all over your car, makes it kind of not worth it IMO.

Is there an alternative to shine, that keeps tires black but not sloppy? I really dislike when they look "Dirty"/rusty/brown colored.

Thanks in advance!
Huge no to shine. It looks trashy to me on almost all vehicles. Tells me there there’s a Black Ice tree air freshener inside.

No shine…clean thoroughly with soap and water, all the nooks and lugs…nothing looks better than the clean natural tire look. I even hate shiny tires on show cars…yuk!

Some good tips here. I'll hold off on the shine. I like the idea of applying the 303 pre-wash and then washing after to make sure no sling gets anywhere. That might be my new routine.

If you’ve got 22s, shine away. Otherwise, no.

I like tire shine only on rare occasions. Maybe after a detail. Tire shine is the equivalent of your pet groomer putting a bow on your dog after its quarterly haircut.

I haven't put any tire shine on yet. If I do, the chemical guys shine is the best I've used. It only takes a little bit and it's not greasy nor does it come off while driving.

I don't do it on my trucks or Bronco, but on our other cars yes. The key is after washing them you spray or wipe on your favorite product, and then the most important part, you wipe them down again with a very damp cloth. Look clean and new without the annoying "wet look" tire dressings leave. Old detailer trick I learned at car shows with my father in law.

But that stuff that came on mine from the dealer, wholly cow it was thick. Had to scrub so hard to get it off with Dawn to help degrease it!

A trick a manufacturer of RAM suspension products posted a few years back....I've done it on my jeep tires, after off roading....doesn't shine...but gives them the like new tire black. Simple Green....do it in the shade, spray tires...with a good amount, use a towel type rag. Never do when wet or before you wash truck.
Comes out amazing.

I have no problem with the wet or new tire look and apply tire cleaner/shine every time I detail after an off-roading trip. I liken it to the old adage of a queen on the street but a whore between the sheets. I usually just buy whatever is on sale and never really had any issues getting over spray on the paint.

Tire shine is up to you , I personally never use any on my off road vehicles. From my bikes to 4x4's all I have done is clean the tires with a mild degreaser and a good scrub brush . I view tire shine like grease on the side tread , with it on you can't side bite on the trail till its worn off.

I’m old school on tire cleaning. In the warmer months I clean the sidewalls with SOS soap pads to get all the grime off. I probably do this every third or fourth wash, more frequently if the tires have raised white letters that are exposed. The SOS pads clean well enough to make the tires black rather than the brownish rust color (which I think is mostly brake dust on the rubber). I then treat with 303 protectant for UV protection a couple times per year and I’m done. On my inbetween car washes in the driveway I have a tire brush I use with normal car wash soap that gets the sidewalls clean enough.

If I take a vehicle in for service I specifically request “no tire shine” as I don’t want it all over the fenders.
Exactly what I do. SOS pad, followed by Aerospace 303. Didn't know other people did the SOS pad trick - figured it was just something my dad did because he taught me that way back when I started washing the family cars as a kid in the 80s.

Nope, the dealer put it on PDI, in three days it was gone, never to return.
