Sync 4 issues - reload w/ forscan?

Trying to figure this out all on my own since the local dealer is worthless. SYNC 4 screen on my 2024 Bronco just blacked out and have tried all the reset options. Hard and soft reset, done it all and nothing. I am wondering if anyone with Forscan knowledge has tried to reload the latest software into the system? I think there is a newer update than what is on there because I did not have it set up for the Over the Air updates.

To my knowledge you can get the latest software on a USB to upload, but the screen would have to be working in order for that to happen. So in theory can you delete the software off the system in Forscan and reload it? Thanks for the help

I don't know that you can do that with Sync 4. I think FDRS and OTA are your only options. I do remember thumb drive updates on older Sync versions though, but that was back when it was still Microsoft branded.

If the screen is blanked/dead - you may be looking at bad hardware.

Sucks about the dealer - it should be covered under warranty, unless you did something like hit it with a hammer.

It's not completely dead.. the intro Bronco graphics come on almost every-time but goes blank after that. Which seems like a software issue, seems like just deleting the current software and reloading with another copy could work. Absolutely close to hitting it with a hammer though.

@Brian_B is correct. Forscan cannot program software, it can only configure existing software. You'll need Ford's official software—FDRS.

The USB stick method is only available on SYNC, SYNC2, and SYNC3. The Bronco has SYNC4, and can be updated OTA, with Wifi, or FDRS.

Hey @RagnarKon - Watched your youtube video on doing the FDRS, going to try this route. Thank you for the awesome and clear video. Ordered the Mongoose under Amazon 30 day rentals ;) Does anyone have the ability to look up my vin to see what software is on the SYNC and if anyone with the FDRS can confirm there is a newer update than what I've got? I have literally tried to tell the dealer this is what needs to happen and they won't even try to make an attempt at it.

According to PTS, you have no APIM updates available. It was last updated June 7th.
It does show a GWM update available.
Doing that may allow a new APIM version to become available, but I can’t say for sure.

GWM = Gateway module. Basically the module that's responsible for connecting the various CAN networks.

My opinion?? I'd take it to a dealer... perhaps a different dealer if you are unhappy with your current dealer. If you have a 2024 you are under warranty, and this sorta stuff is what the warranty is for. The APIM is a $700 part last I checked, and if end up finding out it's an issue with the APIM itself, then it may not be covered by warranty if you tried fixing it yourself with FDRS.

Edit— APIM = Accessory Protocol Interface Module, the module that runs the SYNC software.

Gateway module.

Personally I don’t recommend trying anything especially with it still under warranty. If your current dealer isn’t helpful, I would try a different one.

May be issues with the latest software update. Early today, 09/29 my screen went black just as I was attempting to enter info into navigation for a trip I had to make. Blank screen, I did have a radio connection but could not control it. Shut down the vehicle and restarted and only got the Bronco graphics and then back to black. After the Bronco was shut down for about 10 minutes I restarted, and the screen started working but going to black and back on a few times. Eventually, everything seemed to be back to normal. I got a notification on FordPass that a software update was complete. Later in the evening I looked at the FordPass and it was showing the Bronco was "ON" yet it was parked and not running. Checked it out as it was parked in the garage, not running and no lights or displays active. Started the vehicle and let it run for a few minutes and shutdown. Now showing "Vehicle Parked"... will continue to monitor.

I experienced the same issue a few days ago. Soft reset it like 4-5 times and it seems fixed (for now) I have not driven it for a few days. Last software update was 7 June. Will see today if it still has an issue or new issues, as my iPhone was updated to IOS 18.
