What year Wildtrak? I thought the Wildtrak came with HOSS 3.0, Fox shocks. What hero buttons does it have on the dash? Should have f&r lockers, traction control, hazard light, and trail turn buttons. Sounds like someone started with a base, added Bilsteins & Wildtrak wheels & stickers.

@Espy - The pictures I posted early on in this thread are from a 2023 WT/LUX, pre mudflap install. I'm telling you, your new pictures that were posted are really troublesome.....carfax listing or not. Good call passing on this Frankenstein mash-up! Lol

Betting the dealer thought it was supposed to have stock crash bars (non SAS models do) and added them back in before putting it on the lot.

I meant overall pictures of the whole bronco so we could see other tell tale pieces to sus out what other parts, if any, aren't quite right for the WT . I know you said you got the CarFax, but honestly the only thing I really trust is a Monroney label, I've seen too many different trims pop up when searching a VIN to trust it (though maybe CarFax is more accurate than the DMV🤷‍♂️).

Maybe the dealer did throw them on, but I just can't wrap my head around that one... I mean they know enough to realize they are not there, but not that they shouldn't be?

Ok so the bars are on both sides. Look considerably newer than everything else underneath - cleaner. Maybe mounting brackets for rock slider or a step. It has RC steps now but maybe something else before. Also it has WT hood decals and evidence of the rocker panel WT decals being removed. Likely ill visit a Ford dealer tomorrow (closed on Sunday) and look under some Broncos.

Last 2 are right side.

Thanks again

That's about where I would put the "typical" (i.e. most - always exceptions of course) dealers :ROFLMAO:

Probably a good idea @Espy moving on - just too many other Bronco's out there to choose from to bother with iffy history/dealer.

Thank you, all, for the responses.

I went ahead and bought the carfax on the Bronco - it is a WT from the factory.

I still don't know what those bars are but I'm passing on the truck. My son, who was also car shopping yesterday, road with the salesman in it after I left. He said when the guy was backing it into the parking place it was rubbing so bad the truck was lurching.

I'm in no hurry to buy so I can wait for another/better one to come along.
Those bars are supposed to aid in a crash, by helping prevent the wheels from getting pushed into the cabin. It's possible a former risk averse owner installed them, not realizing the rub issue. I recall some people here on the forum were concerned their Bronco versions did not have the bars, and were looking for ways to add them back.

The only thing that makes me believe it's a possibility is that it's a "safety" item, for the non-squatched, and they thought they better put them on there 🤦‍♂️ I just really would love to see the listing for this now.

Second theory, previous owner had 2 Broncos, and when trading this one in was putting it back to stock and got some parts from the other Bronco thrown on there by accident.

Yellow bilsteins were standard on earlier model wildtraks.

My wife is a rehab doc and asked me specifically about crash ratings in general and small overlap crash protection in particular when I was shopping the bronco.

I installed one of the aftermarket options that work with SAS with enough clearance. So you could be right the original owner attempted the same thing but mistakenly thought the OEM ones would work.

Link to what you used?

Of course, if it hasn’t been crash tested, there’s no way of knowing if the retrofit ones help or hurt.

Sort of like roll cages in a street car.

Your right without former testing there are signicant unknowns. Still, given their limited job of ‘containing’ the wheel & tire to prevent it from intruding into passenger foot well area in my judgment the Boss ones are sturdy enough (indeed might be overbuilt compared to OEM) to make a difference and unlikely to be the source of more harm then good.

edit: they are designed for stock SAS, so they probably would not work with 37+

maybe portals 🤣

Tell the salesperson that the lurching while reversing is troublesome, but you’ll buy it anyways if they knock down the price by 5k. Then just unscrew the crash bars and remove them after signing.
