Soft Top Squeak

My soft top squeaks when driving I’ve isolated it down to the plastic where the hinge rests. I can see some wear in the plastic here and this will likely be a fire replacement part needed I would suggest someone start coming up with a replacement solution, this rivet will have to be drilled out and replaced with a machined bolt setup along with a new plastic guide. Mine is still under warranty but fading fast should I take it to the dealer?

I'm trying to figure out what you are talking about here - there's a lot of rivets even in just that photo, and I don't see anything that looks like it's wearing abnormally. And the tops in general are known to squeak and rattle all over the damn place.

I'd try just spraying it with some silicone lube and see if that helps at all. Once you start swapping stuff out on these they often are never quite the same. I spray all my seals and little joints down every time I wash it and it does help a good bit. Doesn't eliminate all the squeaks and rattles, but does cut down on it.

That said, if you want warranty support for it - you ~might~ get it depending on how your dealer is feeling that day.

Maybe. Maybe not. If the guy wired his ditch lights wrong, maybe there will be an insurance claim, hence......"fire replacement".

Mine will squeak around that same location as well. I started using the Velcro straps tightly so the top doesn’t move, no more squeak. I also take the extra minute or so and fish the straps through the metal arms from inside the tailgate, and avoid the straps from coming in contact with the rubber seals which could possibly cause damage to them.

I have no idea if mine squeaks. Tinnitus gets a lot of bad rap, but it's not always bad (like when the wife starts bitching).

Bingo. I use 3M RV Seal Conditioner on all soft top seals and door seals, and then silicone spray lubricant on all joints. My soft top used to squeak like an old wheelbarrow, now it's silent.

Probably. I never used them up until recently when it started to squeak like you described. Tried them out and squeak is gone, plus if I go over a large enough bump I suppose I don't need to worry about the top jumping around.

Not sure if these photos help, just trying to show how I ran the straps to secure the top and avoid pressing down on the weather stripping facing the outside.

It's your own fault. Short Bronco (for short people and short distances) comes with short straps also.

ahhh I see. Whenever I wheel with the top down, I throw a big cable tie in that general area on the driver side to stop the noises.
