He folks,

We all agree the audio sucks in the bronco. Fixing that, is limited in my opinion. Do you want a kicker audio profile? No? Maybe alpine or jbl?

Sooooo.....

Im sourcing something different. Hi-fi speakers. Specifically from a company called Human Speakers.

These are hand made by Hue Powell who has an extensive resume. His own design.

Ive listened to his speakers and its best described as simple clean and clear. Im sure audiophiles will go into excruciating detail as to why the sound is diffrent. Im not exactly a conissour of fine audio. I just like things loud and to sound good.

I purchased a kit 2 woofers 2 tweeters and 2 crossovers to get started, Talked with Hue (hes an audio engineer id be stupid not to) and since Forscan allows me to disable the cabin audio eq this should be interesting and possible.

My goal is to have a sound system that doesnt need a subwoofer but sounds excellent.

Not sure if anyone is interested in how it turns out or how im doing it. Its going to be a slow project as im rarely home but let me know.

https://www.humanspeakers.com/diy/a61.htm

Thats what im starting with. Mainly to figure out what and where everything should go. No amp just yet. I do want plug and play but I need actual output of 50w by 4 @4 ohm ideally 100w x 4 @4ohm. 2ohm speakers are an option but finding an amp that does exactly what it says without adding its own sound curve is my priority.

Thoughts? Interest?

Suggestions?

You need a sub and a DSP amp like Audison that'll run 2 ohm or just use good earbuds.

There is no shortcut unless have B&O then $1500 in speakers bring it alive with plenty power on tap with maybe a demand for MonoBlock for sub...at a min unless going 75 with top down then need another $4K in AtoB module (B&O only) and high power DSP amp and mono amp....cheaper and better to get noise cancelling head phones like KEF etc.

You’ll have a difficult time creating a sealed chamber large enough to make the kick panel speaker work well.

This is absolutely a no sub build. I have access to a 3d printer and a bit of creativity. Money isnt so much an issue as doing it right.

The output on these speakers is pretty much flat. They are very unique. Im also working with a hifi audio engineer. :) so time and lu k are on my side ^^

Oh... id like to point out im optimistic but not delusional. I just want to take the base stock audio non subwoofer system and try to move it from sounding like sadness to maybe something happy or happy adjacent in a way that hasn't been done yet. Hue isnt local so hes pretty much guidance but that counts maybe? :)

Really im just trying to see if theres any interest in seeing the project and if theres enough to justify recording editing planning etc vids or just a before and after.

Unfortunately as already stated. A good DSP and sub will be required. You can make the Bronco sound good. Great staging and bass/mid bass. Not without the timing, phase, EQ adjustment and OEM bass rolloff compensation that requires a DSP.

You can do without a sub - just a matter of what sounds acceptable to you. But it would be extraordinarily difficult to recreate the sound that a sub can provide without using one.

When you disable the EQ in Forscan, be aware that the EQ profile also includes timing settings, which will also get removed. You will need your own DSP to be able to redo those, or things may sound odd.

I do not have a DSP in my system right now, I ended up re-enabling the Forscan EQ. I do lose frequency response, and it's notable, but that's preferrable to the "around the corner" sound that losing the timing presents.

I will try wavtech LOC to grab high level sub signal and stabilize voltage into my XR1001.1, that I learned yesterday from excellent Kenwood support, has integrated signal summing solving the bass roll off.

I do like the stock B&O DSP calibration just need more bass control with adjustment on the fly.

Sounds way over complicated to me. Like many have said youll need a DSP. You could probably do that along with forscan settings and make a difference. I have a pretty simple setup IMO that sounds amazing. I have a JL 5ch amp with a DSP. 6.5 components in the kick panel and dash with 4s in the rear pods.

Wavtech simple plug and play wit power to unt. Way cheaper than AtoB module and proven interface got lucky my XR1001.1 has summing though.

Make sure whatever DSP get it equalizes / sums head unit signals.

Yeah dsp is added to my list.

Any suggestions on amps? Id like to be around 100w rms @ 4ohm per channel however theres not .uch oversight in the car audio world so how they get to that reading can be questionable. 100w x 4 rams @4ohm is where id like to be.

In terms of "unusual", back in the day I strapped a big 3-way home speaker having a 10" woofer hanging from my CJ-7 rollbar. It was powered by a nice Blaupunkt car amp I got cheap refurbished. That setup even though mono sounded great in terms of sound quality. Maybe there's something to be said for having a real speaker cabinet designed for the speakers.

I have an excellent Audison AP 8.9 in classifieds. Perfect for non B&O plug and play with harness or B&O with AtoB module. Compact super easy software interface.

130W / ch @ 4 ohm with 8 ch bridged to 4.

First, I like your direction, but it has limitations that need to and some have been addressed.

Without a subwoofer, you won't get frequencies below whatever your speakers can provide that your amp can deliver. If that's cool, then ok, but I'm noticing some songs that just don't sound the same without a sub and it bothers me--personal opinion--but I'm living with it for now. I'm not prioritizing the sound system because of the Bronco's limited potential.

I put Focals in the dash for bright and clear and 6.5" pods in the rear with Focals to fill in.

I have woofers/mid-bass drivers for the kick panels I have yet to install. I'm procrastinating 3D scanning, modeling, then printing custom kick panels for them. I want the speakers accessible from the outside instead of popping a bunch of panels to get to the wiring. I'll post it up in the 3D printing thread here if I ever get around to it.

@plugnplaykits has some really cool kits and amps with DSP and may be able to chime in on what they'd recommend for your goals.

As far as write-ups or videos? I'd keep them short. A lot of information is out there already, but I would like to see stuff unique to your build.

Plus a 2khz crossover he also makes by hand.

Frequency response is incredible with less than 2db variance across the full spectrum (40hz-20khz) in the kit which really does alter the dynamic of the songs.

I looked at focal and its just not tuned for that flat performance . They aren't bad they are pretty impressive . I just prefer to tune the audio myself from as flat of a curve as possible. Focal doesnt offer that.

These speakers just have the sound profile I like.

To be completely transparent I listen to music thats all across the spectrum from dirty blues of the 1920s to industrial (re oddko. Rabbit junk etc) yes even country, rap, regge, and top 40 just not excessively) ^^
