Shock Recall Dealer Visit Today

Well here we go dropping my '23 Badlands in for shock recall...a little concerned it was like 4 visits to get the top cracking serve completed...they kept needing more & more parts...

Mine wasn't bad.

Thanks to the forums, I knew to just take it in for them to check it - not drop it off for them to have it fixed. Depending on the state of things, it can go one of two ways. Depending on what they find, they will get parts based on the fix that is needed. It took about an hour or so for them to check on that (and something else).

After they checked it and figured out what was needed, I drove it off and am taking it back at the end of this week for them to actually do the work. They had the parts pretty quickly at least.

My Bronco was at the dealer Monday and Tuesday this week for the shock recall and the rear camera recall. My assumption (you know what assuming does....) was that the shocks would be replaced. However, they inspected the shocks, determined that they did not require replacement, and applied RTV around the area where the reservoir attaches to the shock. Then, they bolted a plastic jacket around the reservoirs and the lower portion of the shock. This is per the Ford TSB. For the rear camera recall, they replaced the rear camera, also per the Ford TSB.

Just got a call from my dealership. They will not replace my shocks after inspection. They ordered a "shield" for them. Was told that if they develop a leak or the reservoir snaps off after this, they will not be covered. I imagine this shield just keeps the reservoir from bouncing into traffic and causing damage to someone else but in no way prevents the issue from occurring.

I was not provided with any information regarding what would happen if the reservoir detached from the shock body. This sounds like dealer bupkus. If the TSB calls for inspecting the shocks, and if replacement is not required, they would apply RTV and the plastic jacket to help reduce any further corrosion, but if the reservoir still detaches, then Ford should be on the hook to replace the shocks! Ford came up with the purported remedy. If that does not work, then they need to make things right.

Allow Ford to keep sending you recall letters concerning the rear shocks until the part fails. Then they have to replace it.

Mine goes in Tuesday for the same thing. Working on an issue that doesn't exist makes no sense to me. My fear is it will be a band-aid, half-assed looking cob job the accomplishes/resolves nothing other than clearing the Recall Notice out of my app and actually masks the problem. Ford should do the "right" thing and replace the shocks rather than doing the "cheap" thing.
