So, can you scratch a Bronco windshield? Mine has 1200 miles and yesterday we got caught in a gully washer, wipers were on high non stop. Today while washing it, windshield looks like it was scratched by the wipers. Just one spot, not everywhere.
Is there a way to scratch these Bronco windshields ? Is there a fix?

Of course they can be scratched. Glass is hard but not impervious to damage. Look what happens to your smart phone just from being in a pocket.

If you had dirty wiper blades they could absolutely scratch your windshield.

This is the same reason I will never ever ever use a rear wiper on any car. Too much dirt collects back there and it WILL scratch your rear window over time. Literally removed the stupid thing in it's entirety from my last car.

There are glass polishes out there, but you will need a powerful machine and even then reviews are mixed.

Very easy fix, wait a short period of time and it will be broken. Have a new one installed. Problem temporarily fixed. Rinse and repeat!

There are polishes out there years ago I had a wiper blade come off and the metal frame scratched a 2 foot long scratch. I did get the scratch out but it effected the view almost worse than the scratch. That one line was magnified slightly.

OK first off, what the hell is a gully washer???
I'm going to assume a lot of rain. Southern thing?

Second I am a firm believer in Rainx.
Note: it's not a scratch protector but it does put a thin layer of silicon ( I think that's what it is) on your windshield which helps remove water and small particles.

The first thing I do when I get a new ride is burn up the windshield wiper fluid as fast as possible and replace with RainX fluid. And of course you can buy the solution and apply it to the windshield manually. It works.

And yes, check to make sure wipers don't have any small scratchy stuff on them.

I realize none of this helps after the fact, but I'm betting that crap that Safelite puts into cracks would work.

Assuming this is a light scratch you ought to be able to polish it out. There are numerous YouTube videos you can reference on doing this (I'd recommend Apex Auto Detail as one resource; he literally just did a video on this a couple days ago). Any auto polish (not wax) will generally work. You could try doing a little by hand, but a polisher would be far more effective. I'm assuming your rotary is at least 5" but I'd be inclined to use a smaller one if you can. Go slow, wipe off, and check your work frequently. Or, their might be a detailer in your area who does this sort of work if you'd rather let someone else handle it.

Wait till its cracked. It will get cracked. Broncos, jeeps etc have an almost vertical windshield and will catch rocks. Then replace through insurance. My ins. is a zero deductable. But thats because Ct. makes ins companies do this. If you dont have glass coverage add it. Just a matter of time. I wouldnt start polishing your windshield unless you will accept a worse outcome. Then I suppose you could throw a rock at it.lol

Dear New Jersey friend, a Gully Washer is when a wadi, arroyo, gulch or draw becomes so full of rain water that it gets cleaned out. Terms such as these'uns are best said with a slight twang. Where I live a western hat is preferred if lullin around outside when that there gully washer is happenin.

Glass can definitely get scratched. Rocks and sand left on the windshield until you run your wipers can scratch for sure. Glass is hard, but not as hard as some stuff on the roads.

If you end up needing to replace, I'd consider putting windshield film onto it. The kit I bought from grab-gard.com fit my windshield well and I'm happy with it so far. I put it on after I broke my first windshield after only a few thousand miles.

If the scratch is really thin and not deep, it's possible you can get it buffed out, or filled to hopefully keep it from being an issue and avoid needing to replace your windshield.

Are you sure it is scratched? Might it just be a spot where the wiper blade wore and transferred some rubber to the windshield? I am sure windshields get scratched all the time, but I cannot recall ever seeing one so badly scratched by the wiper blade that it was noticeable or distracting.

Cerium oxide made into paste, polish with stiff microfiber backing plate on rotary (not DA) ; produces heat and can easily cause damage if not done correctly. If too deep then it will not be removed. As suggested above...watch a video online
