Rear view mirror bug or feature?

Was installing a radar detector above the rear view mirror today, had to flip it over in order to connect taps for the RD power. Forgot to flip the mirror back and noticed that the moment I power up the vehicle the mirror is fully dimmed, as if it is the middle of the night. Returning the mirror to the "upright" position resolved issue.

Without pictures, this sounds like it's mimicking the reflection of pushing the little tab toward the windshield on a rear view mirror. If so, that's a nice feature.

I usually push the RVM tab forward at night to dim the brightness of headlights behind me while driving.
