For what it's worth I always have the ASS disabled on mine.

Ducati - how hard is the install on the rear driveshaft? I see Reel has a heavy duty one for $699. Also is there an easy way to tell for sure if this is the issue? If you get under there can you tell by looking or poking around?
Super easy. Takes 15-20 minutes at most.

And no, you won’t be able to see anything visually wrong. I just know that what the OP explained is very similar to many others with the same driveshaft concern.
If you do a little digging there’s probably 5-6 other similar threads

Thanks! And not doubting you - just wanted to be sure that was the issue before dropping $$ on it. But it does sound exactly like the issue I noticed recently. I'll probably let it be for now and add the driveshaft to the list of mods down the road.

I guess if $700 and 20 minutes is all it takes to fix it for the long term, I’m not going to dread the day it eventually starts. Shit happens and I love driving this thing.

First time I heard it, I was sure the guy stopped behind me bumped me.

You could replace the driveshaft with an aftermarket one and it may fix the issue for good. There’s a few aftermarket companies that make one.

The issue, and the ā€œthudā€, is coming from the slip joint in the middle of the shaft.

You could also try and remove the clamps/boot and then lube the splines. I’m not sure how long that repair would last though.
Is this the slip joint lube issue as seen on other Fords? If yes why do they replace it and not just lube it?
Would this not just be resolved by lubing it with this

I was replacing it because it was previously under warranty, and I wasn't paying for it.

You can certainly use that stuff to lube it like I mentioned earlier, but Ford does not sell the clamps or the boot separately for the driveshaft, so you would need to source some new clamps also.
Still not a big deal, but I've learned to just live with it.

I just took a look for said boot, I did not know Ford put a boot on it the slip joint.
Seems like so many parts that should be serviceable are being made to replace nowadays. That’s not just a Ford issue but disappointing nonetheless.
Thanks for your expertise as always.

Yeah. Unfortunately even if you replace it, it will likely return. I’m on my 3rd one. It goes away for 15-20k miles then comes back. I’ve just learned to deal with it now since I’m out of 3/36 warranty šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø
It’s not hurting anything. It’s just annoying
I'm a retired Ford Tech and years ago Ford had a Teflon grease for drive shaft slip Yokes I don't know if they still make it but that would probably hold up better than anything and also the drive shaft is Powertrain I believe which would be 5/60 powertrain warranty

Little different then the old slip yoke repairs, but yes they still make the same grease which was already posted above.

This is a slip yoke in the middle of the shaft and isn’t meant to be taken apart. Ford doesn’t sell the clamps if you did take it apart.

Also, the drive shaft isn’t covered under powertrain, it’s only covered under 3/36 like I mentioned earlier.
