Curious what others have done with the factory wiring when upgrading the OEM subwoofer real amp on the 7 speaker system. I replaced the existing OEM sub and amp with Kicker 8” and 500.1. Also, installed the kicker key 200.4 and ran the wiring harness from plug n play with the signal wire connecting to the 500.1 along with upgrading the power cable to the 500.1. With this installation I’m curious what others have done/best practices for the OEM abandoned signal wiring and power cable to the now removed OEM amp. Appears this is all contained in the same OEM harness and a pain to remove. For now I’ve simply unplugged. Should I take the time to remove the wiring or is it OK to simply leave unplugged? I don’t believe the OEM amp was powered directly from the battery so nothing to disconnect from the battery, is this correct? Thanks in advance.

Some people actually use that wiring rather than the one of the plug and play kits, since it leads to a more "factory-like" installation. Going with that approach also means they only have to run a new power wire, everything else is already there.

BUT obviously you're well past that point. So just leave it unplugged and pull the fuse. And if you want to prevent the ACM from throwing errors, you should also turn off the subwoofer output via Forscan.

I installed mine similar to yours (I had a 5 channel amp, so I re-ran the powered sub out line back). I removed the OEM amp, taped over the connector and zip tied it out of the way so it could go back to stock if I ever wanted to.

I didn't pull the fuse, but I probably should.

Thanks guys. The OEM amp was powered from the ACM correct? Nothing to disconnect from the battery?

I believe it has a separate 20A fuse under the hood
