This whole offset thing just blows my mind. Sorry for being so dazzled about it.

I have a 2023 Black Diamond 4-door running 285/70r17 Toyo Open Country RT tires on stock steel wheels with 1.25” spacers. The tire edges _just_ poke out from the flare edge.

The factory wheel offset is 55mm. The wheels I want have a 39mm offset.

I will remove the spacers when the new wheels are installed. I’m thinking I should end up with about the same amount of poke as what I have now. Is this a correct assumption?

Thanks for any help on this.

The difference in offset is 16mm or .62 of an inch. If you remove the wheel spacer, then end result will be .63 of an inch tucked in under the flare

Offset doesn't mean anything unless you know the width.

Offset doesn't mean anything unless you know the width.......

At some point , it's all related, but if everything else stays the same, wheel width is a minor consideration.

The "offset calculator" link above doesn't even ask about the wheel width.
Why is that?

Took me a bit to understand that when using centerline as a reference, the width of the wheel changes very little about how/where the tire will ride .... however, adding a 2 inch wider tire will change that A LOT.
For even bigger changes, changing the offset moves the entire tire in or out.

If the tire and offset remain the same, changing just the wheel width only moves the beads and side walls a tiny amount.
