So I should be less judgy when I was recently asked by a young female medical student how to add air to the tires in her Tesla...?

Absolutely.

I don't know if there's any way to prove it empirically but anecdotally, my years of a mechanic and parts guy will attest that most people don't even know how to put air in their tires let alone read a tire gauge.

Most reputable sources, and the Internet, cite two major reasons for premature or unusual tire wear. Alignment issues and improper inflation.
OK, I don't disagree with that, but if we narrow this down to off roading enthusiasts, who participate in off roading web forums, who upgrade and up size their tires, AND finally track and report their fuel efficiency change, that's obviously a completely different calculus.

I should have been more clear, but since we are obviously talking about this subset (who report worsening mpg).

I think that particular observation, along with both of our prior calculations (and my process of elimination) shows that increased contact patch "internal" and surface hysteresis and friction are the likely reason for reduced mpg.

Opportunities to educate benefit everyone. Save the "judgement" for the Man upstairs. 🤠

I was running around with my oldest son & his GF this past weekend, in the Bronco, and the topic of AWD vs 4WD came up, so I gave them the condensed explanation, which was still more than they cared to hear.....😂 None-the-less, they seemed to appreciate the information, and who knows, maybe it will help them pick out a new vehicle some day. 🙂

Wait… Tesla’s have tires? And I thought they just float frictionless above the ground. 🤔

Honestly? I can respect it. She could have chosen to wallow in her ignorance, but chose to admit she didn't know and asked for help.

It was much more shock/bewilderment (as opposed to judgement) that it wasn't something a parent has taught her. That said, some bit of judgement, for sure.

And I happily helped out and gave her more info and useful info than she asked for, without lecturing.

Ok so I am looking for new tires for my '24 Bronco Wildtrak. Has any one switched out the factory
Goodyear WRANGLER TERRITORY MT
For Bfgoodrich ALL-TERRAINT/AKO3 tires?. How would you compair the everyday ride? Do you notice the extra 18lbs per tire?. 90 % of my driving is on black too, 10% off roading.
Just a point of order - on Bronco, Ford spec'ed a Goodyear Territory...no Wrangler name since well, you know...a certain vehicle that Stellantis sells.....
