I don't know if it's a coincidence or what, but after the last update or about the time my information screen came back to life with Pandora's album art, my A.S.S. stop functioning. I stop at a light and the engine doesn't auto shut off, and I'm cool with it. I hit that A.S.S. to disable it whenever I remember, which is usually the first time my engine shuts off at a light.

But, I noticed the engine's been running while at lights, without me hitting that A.S.S... Hmm.

I shut off the function because I don't like the lube to stop flowing and to save the starter.

Note: One advantage of a manual is the A.S.S. doesn't get in the way when the clutch is used, so it doesn't bother one at stop signs like it would if driving an automatic. So, until I get out of the residential community, including the 35 mph roads surrounding it, I don't experience the A.S.S. getting in my way...

Sometimes the A.S.S. happens at a long light and I put up with the A.S.S. for that light only before I hit it.

The ASS will not shut down the engine unless you are stopped, the transmission is shifted into neutral, and the clutch is out. It will restart as soon as you press on the clutch. Works exactly like the Owners Manual states. I've only had it activate when stopped to get out to open the garage door. I don't shift into neutral and release the clutch when stopped at a light so have never had it shutdown on the road.

AUTO-START-STOP

STOPPING THE ENGINE - MANUAL TRANSMISSION
1. Stop your vehicle.
2. Shift into neutral.
3. Release the clutch pedal and the accelerator pedal.
Note:To obtain maximum benefit from the system, shift into neutral and release the clutch pedal whenever you stop your vehicle for more than three seconds.

RESTARTING THE ENGINE - MANUAL TRANSMISSION
Press the clutch pedal.

I agree, mine has started acting up when I start out and I see the greyed symbol on the display with a slash through it then a little later it starts working,.. maybe it lets the engine warm up first?

I would have less problem with it If it did let the engine come up to full operating temperature before activating but that’s not the case on my wife’s Explorer. Few things harder on an engine than turning it off and back on before it’s completely warmed up and it drives me crazy.

Maybe it's different on the Bronco, but generally it's not a good idea to keep the clutch depressed more than you have to, such as at a light. Can increase wear and tear on the throw-out bearing.

I fully understand how the A.S.S. works.

Thanks for playing.

I never had the A.S.S. not function just because the Bronco isn't warmed up, that's one thing I hate about it.

It's also generally not a good idea to sit at a light out of gear in case you need to move in a hurry.

Your climate control may disable it also.

It does. Normally a half block to the mailbox is plenty to warm up though.

OP's battery may be weak. It will also deactivate if it senses a weak battery. A/SS kills battery life as well. The hardest thing the battery does is start the vehicle. The starter is actually built for it.

I too only ever have it activate at the mail box or ATM. I've never shifted to neutral at a light.

Climate control is supposed to disable it, but even when I have the A/C blowing hard when it's 118 out, if I forget to hit the button when I pull up to the drive up ATM I lose my A/C.
