Hello everyone, my name is George and I am new to this forum. I have a completely stock 2021 Black diamond two-door 2.3 manual transmission. I was off the road exploring yesterday and I came to an area that concerned me. A chilling feeling came over me as I realized it wouldn't be good if I were to get stuck several miles from any roads or town. I realized that if I had a winch I could likely have continued. But as it were I turned around and went back home. So I checked out YouTube and saw a Warren Mount and winch combination that seem to be a bolt on proposition. I am asking for help and advice regarding buying a winch and mount that would be relatively easy to mount to my black diamond with the modular steel bumper and keeping it as much as is possible to a lightweight & simple/basic proposition. I am only concerned with a most basic winch setup. Thank you for your assistance, I am overwhelmed as I do searches. I am new to the four-wheel thing.

This is what you call a rabbit hole.

I look forward to watching this thread.

I think the first question should be - is there a hard limit to what you prepared to spend? You will need the winch, a mount for your bumper, and the electrical

*Other than the mount and basic hand tools for install*, Everything you need for the winch comes in the new winch box.. such as electrical. They’re all really plug-n-play..

Thanks for the quick response - I don't want to spend anything more than what is necessary but my main concern is simplicity lightweight and ease of installation.

You’re going to get 100 different answers and each of them will work.. comes down to preference for looks and cost. Personally I’m 100% satisfied with my Badland Apex 12k mounted to my RC high mount on my modular bumper. Fit great, high and tight, very simple. I added frame horn reinforcements as a high winch mount can put stress on your frame horns that it mounts to, plenty of threads on that if you search.

When I look on YouTube I see these guys tearing their bumpers apart and I feel very discouraged.

If you have the Modular steel bumper, you're probably talking about the Warn/Ford Performance kit - it's pricy but contains absolutely everything you need and is just about guaranteed to work.

There are also plenty of mounts for other winches for the Modular bumper. Wiring kits should be easy to find or included. I hear the Harbor Freight Badland winches are actually pretty decent.

This would be a very cost-effective option. The Rough Country high winch mount and a Badland winch together cost less than half as much the Warn/Ford Performance kit.

So if you have a plastic bumper you got everything you need in the winch box? Like, it's just slap the 4 bolts from the box in there, wire it up and you're good?

And what if you bought a takeoff winch?

You still need a mount - everything is not in the box - which was my reference

You’re making this more difficult than it needs to be.. guess I need to be more clear. I’ll rephrase my original sentence to state “aside from the obvious mounting solution (of which there are plenty), everything else you need for the winch is contained within the box of a new winch”
