BMWs were known for this too with their amber or red interior gauges. Red light is fine at night and protects your night vison. Saabs were designed by aircraft designers I think? that would explain their thought out nighttime lighting situation. I dont have my Bronco yet, but hoping for a dark mode.
They were. Made from jets I believe was the motto.

At night the screen and cluster turns a dark blue... and you can lower the brightness. But that's about all I've found.

Wow okay, DAD. I bet any brighter you would get pulled over 😂
Seriously? At least you admit you're a child. You missed the point of less ambient lighting = better night vision. More light in the cabin, you see less outside. It's simple science. But sure, be proud of your ignorant mocking stance.

I wasn't mocking you. Just making a joke about dad's and interior lighting. My b.

Haha - My wife and I have this debate all the time.

My line of thinking comes from four years of officer of the deck night bridge watches, where every light is red and turned way down or off so you have better night vision. She has the instrument and display lights turned all the way up on her Audi Q3 so she can see them (doesn't believe in letting her eyes adjust), and there is no control knob - just some fifteen click double secret back door swipey way to turn it back down so I can see without distraction.

At least on my non-lcd display old skool '08 JK we can just crank it to the lowest setting when I am driving, and the highest when she is driving...
There are plenty of studies on all of this you can show her. But ultimately, you know she's right.

In urban driving there are so many lights outside the vehicle that the typical rules about rods and cones probably go out the window. Color and intensity do have an impact on comfort.

I’m more surprised that people still use wallets. I carry a debit card and a DL. That’s it.

I didn’t even know I had it until I read this thread and went poking around the settings. Now that I have them on it’s annoying the drivers side lights are so much brighter than the passenger side. I just wish they were evenly light.

this.

I was about to say the same.

I had an 08 Saab that introduced me to nighttime driving mode. where it basically turns off all the gauges & radio controls except for MPH, and whatever does stay on gets dimmed. Ever since that car (which I sold to get the Bronco) I dim all my clusters as much as I can. The footwell lighting was one of the first things I turned off and I dimmed the screen as much as I could in night mode.
Same, every car I drive at night goes into stealth mode. It's wild how different your eyes adjust when the gauges are on and when they're off.
