TLDR VERSION: Does the dealership have to reuse hardware from the old front panels on the new replacement panels?

LONG VERSION: Dealership screwed up and forgot to order front panels for my 2DR MIC replacement. Now, they want me to make another appointment so they can replace the panels. Do they reuse the hardware from the old panels or do the new panels come ready to install?

UPDATE: (and it's a funny one, for now.....we'll see how this end)

Dealership called and reported that the warranty claim had been denied by Ford. Now, the rear portion was replaced at no cost last week. The dealership is now not releasing the panels to me (the ones they forgot to order initially) until they get it sorted out. They did float the offer of letting me buy the panels 'at cost' to which I replied would never happen. They then asked if i had pictures of the crack on the rear potion that they replaced so the could send them to Ford. I asked why they didn't have pictures and where the old roof was that was replaced last Thursday to which they had no answer......we'll see how this plays out.

The picture thing doesn't make any sense; they have to send the pictures to Ford to get the OK to replace your top under warranty. I've had mine replaced twice.

Yeah, none of it makes any sense to me either. How can Ford approve ( I even asked because it was close to my 3YR36MI expiring) and then deny, after the top has been installed? Someone at the dealership dropped the ball, that's obvious.

Curious... do they replace the entire top or just the panel that has the defect?

I assume the latter, but never actually bothered looking into it.

I'm guessing they only replace what's damaged, since it's up to the dealership to order the parts and in my case, only initially ordered the rear portion.

Unless the front panels have an issue also, only the rear clamshell should be replaced.

With all of the warranty claims that Ford has had to deal with regarding the MIC tops, you'd think by now they would have the whole process down to science.

I had mine replaced, but only the rear as the rear was the only panel with the cracking, so my guess is, that is the only part Ford will replace then. If you find cracks in the front panels or anything, then they can go back to Ford to see if they will replace the Front. I know with mine, you cant tell at all that the front 3 panels were from a different hardtop set than the rear, they match exactly.

That's what you'd think, however, I'm pinning this on the dealership. They screwed up and they're trying to blame it on Ford.

Dropped my 2dr off today. The guy said they would remove the rear windows to install on the new top. Said they would likely keep the original front panels. My 3yr/36k warranty ends in 3 weeks, so my plan is to just Line-X the whole top sometime in the next few months.

I’m curious As to what the Line-X will do? Wouldn’t the top still crack or it was going to and the line-x just hide them from showing through possibly? I’m not knocking it just wondering. I’ve been checking my 23 4 door Wildtrak that we bought used a couple months ago with 8,600 miles and so far nothing. I do like the bedliner look as I had some rock rails on my JKU coated with it.

Use your pics of the rear portion crack as leverage-give the pics to them after they install the new front panels for you.

Good question. I honestly don't have a scientific answer for you. I do know that line-x tends to be a little more forgiving. So my thoughts is that the Line-X would cover any issues and seal a leak. Maybe it would also add some rigidity to reduce cracking? All speculation. Also, Line-X has a good warranty, so if there is any separation they can touch it up. Ultimately, I do like the look of the product and figure it would provide protection from scratches, help from cracking, and maybe add some sound deadening. When I get that done, I will have them spray my fender flares and front steel bumper.
