The OEM electronic sway bar disconnect is a one piece unit. See pic below.

Why are disconnects sold as a set? You should only need to disconnect one side. The bar will move with the other side but should have full articulation right?

I've wondered the same thing. There is a certain amount of friction in the mount, but minimal I'd think.

yeah, and I’m probably going to get an e-disconnect, but the stock manual sway bar is a single piece. I don’t see the need for a manual disconnect to be attached as a set on each side

I’m not as familiar with the manual disconnects but what you’re saying makes sense. You probably only need to disconnect one side.

The bar does not move freely in the vulcanized mounts. Just speaking for mine, it would have still limited movement on the attached side with only one side disengaged. Easy peasy though to take it off and throw it in the recycle bin.

On older vehicles I’ve just disconnected one side but some of these newer sway bars have high resistance bushings (vilcanized to the bar?) of some sort. Even our Gladiator did. The good thing about that is if you disconnect both sides the bar will just hang there and not fall down. Just zip tie the links up to the bar.

NADA. You will bend the link that remains attached, BTDT, and got to purchase a new end link.

Better to remove both and tie the links to the bar for day trips. For multi-day events, removing the bar entirely takes a minute with an impact (4 bolts). That will be our plan in the future.

Our OBX spends too much time as my wife's daily driver and the toad behind the motorhome.

Sorry, I wasn't staring at it when it bent :) My "guess" is the sway bar moved in the bushings on extension, and then decided to not move on compression, and the link was the weak point.
