So yesterday I took my Bronco to the local OHV to mess around for a few hours. Was constantly on and off the lockers.

One thing that I noticed, was it the light on the hero switch was definitely not in sync with lockers being engaged.

For example, I would engage my front locker climb something, press the button and waited in the light turned off, but it would take several seconds after that before my steering would free back up.

I don't believe anything is wrong. I had just always been on the impression that when the light goes off (or on) It means that they are physically disengaged (or engaged).

Now I know, it's not so "instant" as marketing has been saying.

It would not be unusual to take a little time to disengage, maybe even movement to relieve bind. But I would expect the light to stay on until actually disengaged, or off until actually engaged, interesting. My old LJ Jeep would flash when attempting engage/disengage to let you know it was still in process.

The switch just tells the computer what you want to do. The computer determines when it’s safe to turn on or off. A locker or transfer case will never be instant as long as gears are involved.

At the Off-Roadeo, we were told you might have to roll a few inches before it disengages completely.

Yeah, don't get me wrong. It's not the delay that I'm focused on. It's the fact that the light turns off but the locker is still engaged.

Like mentioned, in my Wrangler, the light flashes while it's in the process and does not turn off until the locker is actually off.

I just think it's a bit misleading, especially since they talked about how quick it engages and disengages... They should have said how quick the light turns off and on :)

Light just indicates the circuit has power. The locker will disengage once it is no longer bound up. I typically leave the rear locker on once needed as it's more hurtful to cycle it offroad and risk getting a partial engagement.

The light on the switch is just telling you whether that button is activated or not, like a light on a rocker switch. I believe the cluster will indicate which lockers are still engaged if they haven't freed up yet.

I'll have to pay attention to that next time. I mean I got up to the top of the hill, turned off my lockers, and tried to take a sharp left and it wouldn't do it till they fully disengage.

Maybe that screen will be more accurate (And if it is too bad they didn't sync the two)

I just checked it and the dash is synced with the light on the button, even though the locker hasn't unlocked yet. Its too bad since i'm pretty sure the computer knows if the locker is actually unlocked since pretty much everything else flashes until the commanded lock/unlock has completed.

Light is basically showing you the requested state, not necessarily its status at that moment... Mine has done the same thing... Unless it becomes really inconsistent or inaccurate I wouldn't be worried.

This is what the dash looks like when you have the front locker button pushed, but it will not physically engage. If you don't have the gray icon I think it means your locker is just in a bind and will release after you drive around a bit. Good luck getting it to re-engage later.....
