With the lifts out there, and the known limitations of the front end CVs , has anyone thought about putting a limit strap on the front arms? I might be way out of line, but uptravel is always important, and drop, not so much as you lose traction at a point anyway. My thought is that with my setup, ICON spacer lift and 37s, that I will enjoy that larger tire, good uptravel, and could help make sure it doesnt drop the suspension all the way out.

Anyway, I might be full of crap, but couldnt find anything on a search, so thought I would get some other input.

I Havnt seen anyone on here do it yet, but have seen many with aftermarket IFS do it. The common practice is to let it full droop, see if there is any binding in CV shaft, then jack up lower arm till it spins free.

The straps will stretch during break in , sometimes up to 3/4 inch. so you have to allow for this. They have 2 types, eyelet on both ends, for set mounting holes, and ones with all thread on one end with an adjuster nut. This type will most likely need the upper end with the adjuster welded to the frame?

Yeah, its pretty standard to set them up that way, and knowing the flex of the material is pretty easy these days.

Im not advocating either way, but I think its something that could potentially help, and looks fairly easy to set up on the front end.

Oh yeah, i dont see any negative issues with it. The down travel is most likely what will damage CV shafts.

Why not buy RCV shafts instead, seems dumb to me to limit travel with straps instead of upgrading shit to handle the increased angles.

Sure if your jumping the truck often or banging the whoops hard enough to stay airborne, then yeah straps are a good idea, but 99.99999% of folks on here don't jump the Bronco often, far more people here crawl over obstacles instead of jumping them...so for the vast majority of folks straps are unnecessary.

If your thinking of using straps while rock crawling, then I think that's dumb too, a far better choice would be to upgrade the other parts to match the new available articulation, not limit it.

Additionally, some of us feel that down travel is very critical to a good ride, and great articulation.

Im not advocating for one way or the other. I just put up a thought about how to help preserve some parts as an idea.

I’ll take more droop over up travel for the kinda wheeling I like to do. Always thought droop was more important unless your dune running.

I agree here as well, especially when going over obstacles UPHILL with IFS the front barely articulates at all when unloaded. (I have a solution in the works) .

A diff drop to save the CV angle is far superior to limit straps. I have a 1.5" diff drop and have no CV issues even with 11" frt wheel travel!!!

Everything else being equal you lose droop when lifting an IFS vehicle. The ratio is about 2:1 so on a 2 inch lift you lose 1 inch of droop (not sure how linear this is, but I have seen the numbers for a 2 inch lift). If you go to an extended length shock you can gain droop back, at a 1:2 ratio (same caveat as above) So a shock that was 1/2” longer would get back your 1” of droop.
The only shock I‘m aware of that can go beyond the CV desired angle is the King shock (though there could be others). In fact, Accutune adds a spacer to decrease the travel on their King build.
In a perfect world you want equal up and down travel (yes droop is equally important). This is difficult on an IFS when lifting it and thus why people go to diff drops, portals or long travel setups, which require widening the width of the front axle to improve the ratios I gave above. Think bronco raptor.
So generally a strap is more of a solid axle thing, and then only in extreme builds.
The bronco has bump stops in the coilover. If for some reason you needed to limit travel, I would either use a spacer or upgrade the bump stops rather than use a strap. Much more elegant solution.
If you want to learn more about all this see tinkerer’s adventure on youtube. Great info.

Would love to hear more about your build and future plans. Don’t suppose you have a build thread?

I do not know if he has a "build thread" but he has been here from the beginning and his build is phenomenal.... Really impressive work. I have been following him on multiple threads for a long time and will continue to do so.
