Kind of both...

I like how it doesn't reflect off the hood. The light is low and out front, so there's no shadows. I'd heard that roof-mounted light bars make a lot of wind noise - none of that here. It tucks nicely in the gap above the bumper, so it is cleaner. Adding height to the truck also may prevent me from getting into my garage.
So if there was a bracket that was low and didnt have the wind noise you would do it?

Would you ever consider changing the bracket at a later date or is it not that big a deal?
I would not consider it. I personally love the look of the setup and am very happy with look, fit, and light output.

40-inch Heretic roof light mounted on Trailrax roof rack. Extremely bright, very satisfied. Pricey, worth it to me. If you go with this array, don't aim them too high. Tree branches look great, but you want to see the road, right?

I also have a 20-inch 4x4 LED array on the bumper. Not so bright, but heck, they're installed. I aim those downwards for close-up coverage, and the 40-inch Heretics sort of straight ahead, slightly downwards. Some 4x4 small cubes in my bumper recess rounds things out, plus some white fog cubes in the bumper, and heretic amber ditch lights for larger fog/snow/dust illumination.

Would you ever ditch the roof rack and do a stand alone light bar?

Are 40 inches the most common asks from customers?
For the roof mounts, we've done a few of the Rigid 40" setups between the accessory mounts, but most folks go with 50" options like the one I have in the picture above.

Do you have any output comparisons you could share?
Unfortunately, I do not have physical output comparisons with pictures. But I can share with you various specs from the different manufactures on their output of lumens, lux, candela, etc.

I've got all the manufacturer specs. I was looking for some comparison pictures or video of those two bars specifically. I do appreciate it though and may hit you up when finally settle on one!

Would you ever ditch the roof rack and do a stand alone light bar?
In my case, no. On a major trip, I want the availability of a cargo box. Done my share of minimalist camping, and at 76 I want to bring a few comforts and conveniences. So that means a full-roof rack to mount it on.

Every decision has its compromises, starting with price. Trailrax (+ PackRax) is pricey, but I want full enjoyment in the 5-10 years (hopefully) I have of active living. I like the PakRax, but the wind noise is significant. Also, the full-length "TRMR" TrailRax is essentially a permanent install--you ain't taking the back roof section off, except for a lot of disassembly.
Think of what you expect to do, recreation-wise, but also of more ambitious off-road activities you might grow into later on. Go on group runs, ask other owners and check out their gear, and read the forums on both sites. Keep your head on straight--this can get awfully expensive!

Compromises, decisions, trade-offs. Shop, compare, think, decide. And don't fall into buyer's remorse!

I believe that I would still like it better at the bumper.

Interesting... The current poll leader is a 40 in light bar. Is it a Texas thing to go for the max size? And what about a roof rack? Wouldn't it mean they can't put a roof rack on with a 50" light bar?
