Jump(push) starting 2.3l MT

The Bronco start button has two stages.
first push- dashboard comes to life
second push + clutch- engine starts.

The issue with the Bronco might be the „clutch depressed“ requirement.
Once you are at speed and let go of the clutch the engine is mechanically engaged by the transmission, but it doesn’t start combustion because the ignition is not really on. The missing clutch signal and maybe other conditions we don’t know of are preventing it from coming on. I will try jumping out my „clutch depressed“ switch and test it again. But it will be a couple of weeks until I‘ll have time for it.

Does your 2016 require that the clutch be depressed on a standstill start?
If so I wouldn’t expect it to roll start either. But it did.

I tried my wife's ford fiesta which has a push button start, it could do a roll start too. Both the fiesta and my subaru require the clutch to be depressed to start.

When you tried it did you push the button like you were going to start it but without the clutch pushed in? It sure sounds like you had it set up so it should start....

I wonder if it is related to the auto start stop system, IE if auto start stop is enabled it wont roll start.

hmmm.

I'm going to be pretty disappointed if a roll start is not possible. (I know just one more reason, there are so many...)

When you tried it did you push the button like you were going to start it but without the clutch pushed in? It sure sounds like you had it set up so it should start....

I‘m pretty sure that’s how I tried it ( it was a while ago)
If your Fiesta works, we should be able to make it work on the Bronco!
My goal is to figure out as much about the programming as possible.
I hate the thought of being stuck in the weeds because of some missing sensor signal or loose connection with no real impairment on the function in question.
I‘ll report back once I tried it again.

Maybe I'm missing something, but wouldn't any EFI vehicle require power to jump start it since the injectors won't put any fuel in the chambers?

I think your right.
But shouldn’t that power come from the alternator as the engine is forced into rotation during the push start?
And even if we concede that the battery can’t be dead, it would be nice to know that a bad starter motor is something we’ll be able work around.

Yeah, electricity comes from the alternator. The biggest problem I see is having the ignition on since it doesn't have a keyed on position. If given a long enough hill, seems like there is a likely procedure for getting the ignition switched on and then enough power to activate the fuel pump and injectors.
