Long story short - I bought a used I-Pad Air (16GB) on Amazon thinking I could use it at home and I just can't. Between my desktop and phone....there is just no need for it. Can't return to amazon cause it's worth almost nothing in terms of getting a refund - SO.......I'm thinking, mount it in the bronco and use it for OnX, Carplay, etc......Whatever ideas are out there??? How to's would be great also!!! :)

Please share your setups and any ideas!!!!

I have an iPad mini mounted on an Archetype Racing “The” D grab handle using a RAM Mount EZ-Rollr’ case. I use the iPad for my JB4 tune, OnX, Gaia GPS and other maps.

Y'know, it's funny, the reason you say is the same reason I have a 9" iPad I got at work a few years back that hardly has a charge, much less gets used. Really just sits there, gathering dust. I have a friend, though, that only uses her iPad (her phone is Siri only, no joke).

Yeah i tried to return mine....but getting back $28 for it was ludicrous...lol. Hence, this post so we can all share in the utter uselessness of an ipad at home (#unlesskids) and perhaps share w/ each other how to use in ze Bronko!!!! Man....the darn mounts are going to cost more than the ipad.....:cwl:

i do the exact same thing though on the stock handle w/ a ram mount claw. My ham radio mic sits right below it.

If you’re going to use an iPad for onX or Trails Offroad, it will need to be cellular capable (gives it gps). You don’t need to buy a cellular plan though. When on the trail I run both apps, one thru CarPlay and the other directly on the iPad. Started doing that when CarPlay connecting reliably was a problem. While that hasn’t been a problem recently, I like the redundancy and each app offers different features that I like.

Can you share where you got the connection points and what brand? YES - cause my CARPLAY is sometimes intermittent......like every other day almost (I think a recent update fixed that thankfully). But it would be nice to run my OnX on it especially since I have the "small screen" radio from the factory.

Trial and error began with a unit from Amazon that fit into a cup holder. Didn’t like it for a variety of reasons. Since I have stuff from 67 Designs on top of the dash I used their Bronco Ball and attached it to the grab handle. https://www.67d.com/collections/ford-bronco/products/broncoball-20mm. Then I used parts from the cup holder thingy to come up with what you see in the pics. One day I’ll replace them with 67 Designs parts for cleaner function and look. Several companies make this kind of stuff. I use an 11” iPad Pro which is almost too big, but it’s my main home computer too.

Hope this helps.

I use my mini ipad a lot. Mostly for flying, but also movie watching at work. (lots of down time)
The bad thing about the ipad is Apple does not allow carplay to work on it. They want to ensure you have an iphone as well as an ipad.

I went with the RAM mount, claw, and tablet holder. Works well but my tablet doesn’t get gps offline. Haven’t figured out how to get that to work.
