Ironically, you almost never hear anyone refer to their Patriot, Grand Cherokee, etc. as a "jeep"

I was filling up the BBR with gasoline, and this Tacoma on other side of pump asked me the stupidest question ……… “Hey man, what kind of Jeep is that?”

I just stared before calmly replying “The one made by Ford….”

Response was “cool about time Ford starting making Jeeps.”

I wasn’t sure what to say. I know not everyone are car enthusiasts but I wasn’t sure if he was kidding or not.

I think our society is becoming stupider by the generation lol.
Ford hasn't produced a "Jeep" since the M151 Mutt. And it was a very good one.

Man I didn’t even think of this.

Maybe he knew more than I thought.

Well, according to lore, the word "jeep" came from "GP" which stood for "general purpose" vehicle. Willys and Ford made them. Willys was later acquired by AMC along with the "Jeep" brand.

Yeah, jeep/jeeping (lowercase) to some is like saying Coke in the south. You go a lot of places outside the south, they'll argue with you if you say "I'd like a coke, can I get a Dr. Pepper". A jeep is just a specific 4x4/off road vehicle to some people.

Also, why were you talking to a Tacoma? Do those talk now??
Maybe it was a Talkcoma? The talking Toyota?

and hey - be nice to @THE_SAVSQCH otherwise his BBR s gonna beat up your Bronco! 🤪

That used to be a huge pet peeve of mine. My mother-in-law, who was otherwise wonderful, constantly referred to the "Frigidaire", even though the logo on the door clearly said "Kenmore". My mind screamed, "MA!! It's called a REFRIGERATOR!!!" But I had to remind myself that I religiously say "Kleenex" and "Q-Tip", no matter the brand. So I suffered in silence. My hypocrisy only goes so far.

Well let's not forget that the first "jeeps" made during the war were by Ford and Willys based on a design from a third party (American Bantam Car Company). Willys somehow got the rights to the design and name after the war.

I've called my own Bronco "the Jeep" more than once. 😐
Same here. With the uninitiated it is more useful to just say "jeep" or "jeep trails" rather then going on a tangent about 4x4 vs. Jeep vs...
