Got the rig cleaned up after Borrego and Idyllwild trail runs last couple of weeks (No mall crawler).

Cruising sunny San Diego beaches today topless with kiddo got two compliments.

First, Wind n Sea beach cruising 4 cute 20 something girls coming the opposite way yelled “we love your truck!” , smiled and waved and said “thank you”. Then leaving the grocery store I stopped to let an elderly woman cross the street, she looked at me after crossing and said “I like your setup”!

Badlands SAS with a shit ton of lights and ARB twin.

I’ll take it!

I used to have people tell me “nice Jeep” all the time when I had my FJ40. i rarely heard anyone call it a land cruiser. I got the Jeep wave constantly too.
I always just said thank you. I never corrected anyone, never felt the need.

Heck, I called it a Jeep too, way easier to say. 😁

Broncos look nothing like a Jeep but i think with the top off, an off road looking vehicle instantly falls under the Jeep label for a lot of folks. Fine with me, I love jeeps too.…I’d just rather have a bronco.

If we feel this way about being called a Jeep imagine how the Jeep folks must feel. :)

Reminds me of when I go to the Chick-fil-A drive thru. The stickers they put on the drink cup and bag, the vehicle description often says “white jeep”. 😆

This happens to me often as well. Poor teenaged girl asked me when I pulled up to order "What color is your Jeep? Green or blue?" I have a Cactus Gray so I said "I guess blue." Took them far longer to deliver my food because they could not find a "BLUE JEEP" in the line.

It's actually G for government (contract) and P was Ford's designation for an 80" wheelbase. I have a 41 Ford GP. They lost the contract to Willys and had to make the Ford GPW the copy of the Willys MB.

Also have heard the word "Jeep" came from Popeye's cartoon dog named Jeep that could climb anything.
Actually, American Bantem motors came up with the design. Willys overland was awarded the contract because the government determined they would not be able to produce enough. Ford was brought in to make up the rest of what Willys Overland could not produce. In the 60's Jeep became the generic term for anything that actually was used off highway. Either for sport or utility. The term SUV came from the classification of these vehicles. The Crysler Motor company bought Jeep and American Motor Company in 1987. shortly thereafter they started sueing magazines and car shows if they used the term "Jeep" for anything that wasn't a Jeep model. They sued for trade mark infringement. This is atleast the way I remember it going down. I typed all that to say if it is an old timer calling it jeep he is just using slang possibly.

Pulled into a movie theater parking lot with a Jeep on my tail. He parks two spots down, jumps out before I can, and steps into the driveway to take a closer look.

"What year is that?"

"2023."

"Oh, (pause) I thought it was a Jeep."

"Nope."

(Spins on his heels and walks away with no further comment.)

He actually looked a little disgusted when he finally figured it out. I felt a little bad for him.

The Bantam is the coolest of the three prototype "Jeeps" IMO. The government gave Ford and Willys the Bantam blueprints cause they were being lazy. Ford made a GP, Willys made the MA and Bantam made a BRC. In the end Willys mad the MB and Ford the GPW. Bantam made the trailers because they had no where near the production capacity to keep up with demand. Even though they won the design. Look for a book called "Warbaby" by a guy called Bill Spear. Will tell you everything you wanna know about them.

No point in arguing an old Vets slang though!
