As stated it's very hard to get good sound from a turbo 4 or 6. I am happy with my MBRP CAT back on my 2.7 Bronco but would not do it again. Minimal if any performance and no MPG gain. I had a 2017 Camaro with the V6 and tried multiple exhaust systems- MBRP and even had a custom one made- never sounded good, waste of money. My 87 Chevy Squarebody with a 1974 5.7 V8 has dual exhaust and sounds wonderful and powerful but it's not. At least the Bronco has power with the 2.3 or 2.7 but they don't sound good.

Has anyone cut the stock Bronco mufflers open to see how they're designed? I got a performance increase when I went to a straight through muffler on my Subaru, but the stock muffler had a lot of baffles and was restrictive. All exhaust gases had to flow through a baffle.

I've been following many of these threads. I haven't seen many say they got a performance increase. Most seem to make the change either for acoustic reasons or clearance.

The stock Bronco mufflers are pretty large compared to many after market. So they should flow fairly well and be quieter than after market mufflers.

I agree with MWILD, a resonator can help tone with little penalty in performance. Almost all are straight through.

Alright, I think it has come time to add an exhaust. I have been looking at muffler deletes. The 3 that I have been looking at are Red Rock, Flowmaster, or Rough Country. Not sure which one to get because they all do the same thing. So I am wondering if any of you have one of the 3 and which one should I purchase? A full catback exhaust system is not in my budget right now, so that is why I am looking at the muffler deletes.
Go to an exhaust shop in your area, will save you money. You might want to go with a muffler for a better sound. I went with a Flowmaster and I'm happy with it. Not a V8 sound, but it works.

I put Borla on my wife's OBX. It sounds ...........well,......better. It sounds like a vehicle now, vs. sounding like a blender. Driving habits haven't changed, but the dash indicated MPG shows 1 (ONE!) mile per gal. better (17.3 before, and 18.3 now). Always in the sport mode, and with SAS on 35s.

@Xterra2Bronco try these guys in Plainfield - good reviews including the 1st one which mentions them doing muffler deletes. May even get a good price on a cat back now or later down the road.

I guess I'm in the minority. I installed the RC muffler delete, and I like the sound, the extra ground clearance, and the weight savings from the removal of the muffler. I don't know that I've gained anything performance-wise or gas mileage-wise, but for the cost and the ease of install, I'm really happy with it.

I just looked that up for the heck of it. $125? Sure why not, it’s such a low cost then it may be worth him just trying that, I doubt a shop will make it any cheaper. $200 all-in installed probably. If it doesn’t work then it’s not a lot to be out of.

When I deleted my rear high-clearance Roush muffler I was going to just save the tip, and run a straight pipe where the muffler was. I ended up driving around with it cut off so long, no sound issues, that I’ll just keep it as is.

Yes, and I actually got it a little cheaper at $110 on sale. Saving the 25-30 lbs. from the stock muffler alone made it worth it.

As an alternative for the cost range of a muffler delete plus less labor, see this recent thread, if you want to try the CAI route to get more performance sound. Add a BOV while you’re at it. He did K&N, there are others that get you the same.

Yeah, I've been down that route of the CAI, tunes, exhaust, etc. I was just trying to see what the consensus is on the muffler delete option. The last exhaust I had on a vehicle was my wrx years ago. I was looking as some of the full exhaust I had on vehicles in the past and I was completely shocked that they are near and over 1,000 dollars. As for the BOV, man I thought the exhaust post was going to get some ricer comments, can only imagine for that. lol

Possible, but in the 2.7 and the load we are pushing, I like helping the turbo recover fast, plus it’s not squishing out constantly and obnoxiously like some over-hp 4 cyl.

As for ricer shade, I’m still recovering from my intercooler research here and on Civic-type forums. A BOV is nothing.

Perfect description of the improvement. And 1 MPG improvement is pretty good! I'd be happy with that. I only got .1 improvement with MBRB dual exit CAT back. Same driving habits. I got 22.7 before , now 22.8. Still terrible for my 80 mile a day commute to and from work with the tiny gas tank. I have to gas up way too often so Bronco is a every other weekend vehicle.

if really curious, just yank the muffler off and see what it sounds like. Pretty sure it will convince you a delete is not what you want.
