I really like the Rad Designs one. Does anyone have this? Looks like they have a billet version coming soon too instead of the 3D printed. I wonder if you can use Baja S2 lights instead of the wimpy rock lights.

My friend was the test Bronco for RAD designs and I’ve been talking to the owner. They have a Raptor version coming out that they exploring billet for. No current plans to change the regular bronco version and no, it doesn’t fit the S2’s.

We looked into utilizing the OEM third brake light housing when we were in design phases on ours. Here’s our take on that topic.

Our main mission when we created our modular tailgate reinforcement was to support the weight of larger off-road tires. We realized that the OEM third brake light was designed for a stock height wrangler MT 315/70/17 which measures out to around 34.3”. In most cases when installing larger tires we found that you need to extended the height of the TBL so it can remain effective and have enough Clearence to fit properly. We didn’t like the idea of extending the third brake light and adding more weight to it without any way to stabilize it and ensure it doesn’t bounce around and shake when u go over bumps.

That’s what promoted us to create our third brake light to be fully adjustable and stabilized with a polyurethane bump stop. We wanted our third brake light to be future proof and be able to adapt to any tire size and set the desired height of the owner.

Lastly, our aluminum housing is modular which means you can easily add an antenna mount, rear camera, or even attach a set on Baja designs to the sides if you really wanted to blind everyone behind you.

Is it possible to get some pictures showing the light output?

The Baja design rock lights were our first choice but after comparing the brightness, functionality, and cost to the made in Austin Texas Fenix LEDs, it was a no brainer. Especially considering our TBL doesn’t rely on dimer imported LEDs for brake/reverse lights.

Baja designs makes epic lights, but for the safety purposes of a chase light, their Rock lights are better than nothing but not optimal for ensuring visibility in dust/precipitation

@popopatty will be getting some drone shots soon, hopefully can do a real world comparison of ours vs others…

@popo_patty love the wiring. Actually made sense to me from the pics as that’s how the Turn Offroad license plate holder is routed through the OEM tailgate grommet. And the SPV harness to power my rear bumper lights is also routed similarly with a pigtail from the driver side rear taillight. And yes that space is snug.

One question- why is the orange chase wire shown in one pic routed near the passenger rear door? I figured it would go in at the passenger rear panel (with the tailgate wiring) and terminate at the rear aux switch wiring.

I do like this chase/brake/backup light combo. Seems to cover a lot of bases. It is expensive, yes, but the quality is excellent. And the wiring harness alone is worth over $100 plus many hours of time.

My aux switch wire harness was in that spot near the door. It’s wired behind the panel but I went in through the top due to my diabolical system preventing me from removing the side panel.
