Is replacing this seal in the realm of a decent backyard mechanic? The only part of the job that concerns me is seating the new seal w/o damaging it. Ais a special tool required?
@orion has done it, among others I’m sure. They may be able to chime in. I don’t think it requires anything too specialized but haven’t done it myself to weigh in authoritatively

Is replacing this seal in the realm of a decent backyard mechanic? The only part of the job that concerns me is seating the new seal w/o damaging it. Ais a special tool required?
It’s pretty easy and self explanatory.
There is a special tool for installing the seal, but it’s certainly not required. You can use anything that fits the seal properly and will go over the end of the pinion.

Not a pinion seal yet, just axle seal thus far.
