Ford Performance Tune questions

Hey. First post, been creeping for a bit, trying to learn. I bought my 2023 Outer Banks in March and LOVE it! I've been reading a lot about the tune and decided I should get it. I got it delivered today from Lethal Performance. I havn't had it installed yet. I am going to have the dealership do it, just to be safe. It seems doable, but I just can't really bring myself to do it. From what I have read, you get, or might get, the following:

Better/ smoother shifting​

More power​

Better gas mileage​

better or worse mpg​

Better response​

Turn off engine start/ stop​

Quicker acceleration​

Adjustment for my 37" tires to recalibrate the speedometer​

Is there anything that I am missing that I should expect? Anything that I have written false?

Well worth it! Just have to buy 92 octane but still worth it!

Yep that's about right. Most of it's pretty subjective, some people notice it more than others. I'm assuming you have an automatic, if you had a manual you also get automatic Rev-matching.

Other things are the ability to update the gear ratio of you swap those out, deactivating FAD if you had a non-Squatch and add an M210, and programming the heavy duty steering rack from Ford Performance if you add that.

Anyway - Yup. More or less accurate. The box also acts as a code reader, can reset DTSC codes (Check engine lights, among others), and can show you real time other engine parameters, including some limited data logging.

If you've done a lot of driving in Sport mode, the best way I can describe it is it turns "Normal" into Sport, and Sport into .. super sport.

The hardest part about installing it is creating the Ford Performance account - which you should absolutely do before you take it into the dealership anyway and have them log it to your account.

You do not need to leave the box installed, and you do not have to have them install the mount or run the cable if you don't want them to. The box is only needed when you install the tune, or if you want to read live data/check codes, or you want to revert back to original tuning.

Just installing the tune is .. about 5 minutes, which consists of putting the battery on a charger, plugging in the unit, hitting a button - and drinking coffee while looking busy while the software uploads... then reverse all that. If they install the mount and route the cable, add another 30 minutes.

I've had it now for a few months on my 2 door 2.7. Mpg seems a tad better but who knows. The power gains are noticeable at first but you will soon forget about it as you get used to it. It's a good tune but not a wow tune. I had a local dealer install it to retain warranty, took them 30 minutes.

I have had mine installed for over a year now on a 2.3l manual. Fuel mileage is a little better but pretty much a wash ($$) as I run 93 octane. As stated before the Rev Match is kinda the best part for me but considerable performance increase overall. Had a dealer install it and have had zero issues. Cant speak to the ASS disable as I had installed the Eliminator prior. I found that the tire size was hit or miss using the size settings in the FPT but it is easy enough to keep adjusting and veryifying using a GPS app. Overall, I definitely would do it again if I were to purchase another Bronco for sure.

I really do not think it changed my shift pattern much.... maybe slightly. What it did for me was flatten the top of the torque curve. before the tune the top of the curve was very peaky.... very much what you would expect from a small turbo engine. You would feel a surge of power just before the shift point. Now the pull is considerably more consistent. Much flatter; nice and strong. The now flatter curve is just long enough to provide a nice and consistent pull for the duration between shifts. It matches well with this transmission. I am running the 2.7 TT with the 10 speed. I really like it.

Mine gets delivered from @LethalPerformance tomorrow. I have an appointment at the local dealership on Monday, but they have not installed one before. My plan is to already have my tune backed up and the performance tune loaded so that is all they have to do. They quoted me the labor rate of $149 an hour and I believe it will be a lot less than that, but I want to make sure if there are any issues I can hopefully resolve them ahead of time.

My question is -is there any reason I could not/should not go ahead and change my tire size before I download the performance tune or should I just wait until they finish the performance tune install?

Are you saying the vehicle battery needs to be on a charger?

It’s a good idea any time you are making changes to the software.

Won’t affect the tune or hurt anything if you do

After discussion with a couple dealers, ford performance distributors and reading some others speak about it online I went ahead and installed it myself. The conclusion was that with respect to the warranty concern that statement is about a warranty on the specific part (in this case the tuner, not the overall vehicle warranty) and that being a ford part there should be no concern with the warranty. I got this directly from the service manager and then from others discussing it. Saved me some money and I love it personally.

Up to the point just before the Performance tune is installed yes. The goal is to walk away with a bill/invoice that reflects the dealership installed the FP tune utilizing customers provided equipment (ie ProCal). I don't foresee there being an issue with the dealership getting down in the weeds on the paperwork as far as who did what.

I haven't done this yet, so if i am missing something and this is bad idea, let me know
