I’ve been eyeing out the B&M Sport Shifter for some time now. I’m new to doing my own mods (which I’ve been wanting to do for so long but never had a rig to do it on) but I’m not squeamish with using tools or opening things up as long as there’s directions I’m good. However, I still don’t want to neglect that I’m new to these techniques. I’m just having a hard time deciding where I should start and I’m stuck between starting with something more simple like replacing the grill or if I should just go for it with the shifter. Any suggestions?

Should start gradual and work up to complicated. Also have someone who can assist you if you run into difficulties.

I thought about getting one after I got my Bronco. I changed my mind after looking at the instructions. It's a pretty involved installation. It's not beyond my capabilities, just more work than I want to do for the benefit I'd gain. I'm happy with the stock shifter.

If you haven't already, download and read the instructions. Also there's a video on Bronco6G. You can find it via a google search for B&M shifter Bronco. But here's the link:

However, it's your Bronco, you should do what makes you happy.

My background:

I've taken parts from two cars to make one, changed head gaskets and timing belts, replaced water pumps, V8 intake manifolds, exhaust headers, etc. Currently installing ARB twin compressor under the hood using the ARB kit. I've done the install, but I'm redoing it. I'm going to modify their bracket to solve a couple of issues that bother me.

Solid advice. I’m leaning more toward working my way up too. I was thinking maybe I’ll start with simple aesthetics like lights, grille, nothing too big. The most mechanical things I deal with is oil changing and basic things like my fluids. Even though I know I’d probably be fine, I don’t wanna be way too confident.

This is the start of wisdom. :) You should push yourself, but have a good idea of how things can go wrong.

Or get an old Jeep and have at it. That's what I cut my teeth on, was a lot of fun and not a big deal if something went wrong on a vehicle that only cost $1400. I wouldn't be too keen on tearing apart a new vehicle in the $50-60k range though.

The instructions I found were pretty good, the main headaches for me were removing all the trim and plastics.

Take your time, there are a few small bits that could easily be lost if dropped (pin spring if I recall?).

The sportshifter was hands down the best mod I've done to my 7mt bronco!

Was it the instructions that came with the unit or from somewhere else?

The instructions that came with the shifter. I don't think it physically came with them, however I printed it from the website to have and refer to.
