I'm curious how that worked out that Sykes ended up as a DNF.

He had - 30 minutes in penalty, RJ had + 15 minutes for a closed gate. Official time 35 hours 56 minutes.

@NORCALGXP, I didn't think they made it to the finish line before hitting the time limit, hence the closed gate?

Absolutely! Incredible determination and efforts by all. And great work on their truck build. That little 2 door Bronco was certainly wounded as most Baja 1000 trucks end up, but I watched them drive her back up on the trailer under her own power, despite leaking fluids and flat tires. I'd love to read the post race teardown analysis of what held together and what was compromised.

Have not heard from @popo_patty for any back ground on the final last miles. My info came from Instagram and the SCORE penalty report and time of record.

Man, I hope they do a video or something about this whole experience before, during, and after. One of those things that they thought "Why in THE HELL am I doing this????" many dozens of times....and now it's over, thinking about next year. Kind of like a mom with more than one child.

That original experience will go a long, long way in a second effort! Then again, I had a Husqvarna that had a sticker on the rear fender reading, "World Champions Forever". Can't do better than winning. Maybe a different class?

It’s been wild. I’ll update in detail later. Essentially we officially took 1st place due to time credit for someone closing part of the course on accident locking us out from the finish.
Sykes got a DNF due to penalties accumulated during the race from missed markers that put them over the time limit.
The Toyota team never finished the race.
We got the official win and are at the ceremony now.

So amazing!

I got to ask. Was the 2.3L/7-sp MT just part of this BD being a vehicle of opportunity, or was that intentional?
