Wish I had taken pics of the valves when I checked with my boroscope at 75k mi... Mine were dirty but didn't have any crazy buildup. I'll have to see if I can rent that boroscope again and get pics to upload this time. Ford tech had told me that they rarely see issues with carbon buildup on the 2.7L Ecoboost before 150-200k. It's also used in a few other Ford vehicles.
Yes, Brian answered before I did but the old 2.3 is DI only, which is the issue. Having dual injection like the 2.7, 3.0 and now new 2.3 don’t suffer.

Well the 2.7 (and the new 2.3) has dual injection, which helps a lot. The older 2.3 is DI only
Ah, I wonder why the tech didn't mention that. You'd think if they knew what they were talking about then the guy would've said "Oh, your 2.7 has dual injection, so you shouldn't see much buildup on the valves." Then I could've saved myself the trouble of renting a boroscope to cure my curiosity LOL

Well, what the tech said wasn't wrong.

BMW has been dealing with this for many years. I don't know if they still do it but they have a system that injects a fluid cleaner directly into the intake manifold with the engine running at the dealership. I don't remember how long it takes. There should be a way to do it with a Ford engine.

There is something else to consider. I see you (the OP) live in Idaho and I'm pretty sure that you get nasty cold temperatures like we do here in Canada. Your mileage will drop significantly due to a drop in temperatures. For example, my mileage through the Summer here in Nova Scotia averages out to be 10.1 L/100 kms (23.2 mpg) and currently my mileage, because we are now consistently below 0° C (32 ° F), is 11.7 L/100 kms (20.1 mpg) and the more severe the temperature drop, your mileage drop will increase for reasons too involved for me to put out here. That may not be your only issue but you will definitely experience a drop in mileage during the Winter.
Avoid high biofuel content when ever possible try Shell 93....it improves my milage significantly after getting poor economy on Chevron high ethanol content even in summer.

Turbos love cold air should be getting better milage if anything but biofuel hate colt temps efficiency craters which is good for govt coffers they make more fuel tax income while claiming to save the planet with biofuel mandates LOL

That would be awesome if we could get it up North of the 49th parallel. All us lowly Canadians can get here is 91 Octane at the most. And it’s up to 10% ethanol to boot!! Which absolutely sucks

I always thought anything higher than 91 was unobtanium up here. I've never seen it anywhere but the states. I guess that's what happens when you assume!
AB has Shell 93 avoid Chevron
