I have a brand new 2023 Raptor Bronco that started rattling on startup during our road trip to Colorado. It sounds like the phasers but it’s only got 3000 miles. Anyone have an idea?

Yup sounds like the phasers. On another thread, someone had the phasers issue at 700 miles so apparently it can happen whenever. It’s odd because I thought the phasers issue was happening only with the 2.7 engines.

I called the dealer and they said the same thing about not seeking it on the 3.0. YouTube said the 3.0 is the same block as the 2.7 but is bored out to make it a 3.0. I ASSUME that means same cam phaser.

Suuuuucccckkksss. I was hoping for an easy fix.

Interesting yeah it’s definitely a popular failure on the 2.7. I mean it sounds like the phasers but who know it might be a totally different thing. Sucks that it’s already giving you problems, hope the dealer can figure it out soon. Good luck!

Yup, sounds like my 3.5L phasers before replacement in my Expedition. Mine only did it on cold starts.

Yup, mine is on cold starts as well. How long did the fix take and did you have any issues after?

Few days. No additional issues with phasers and it’s been about 20k miles. They did crack my coolant overflow reservoir and a heater line connector though during the repair that required another visit in shortly after I got it back. It actually took two trips because they diagnosed the leak as my water pump initially. Sooo, I got lots of new stuff. All warranty.

Dang!! That’s what I’m afraid of. Big job, they go pretty deep in that motor. Oh well guess it’s part of owning one.

They both definitely have the same issue as they use the same phasers.

I could see why this is controversial. I can’t help but wonder if they ship these things with the wrong weight oil or if it’s just bad oil. If additives fix it, seems like a weight issue. I’m not a scientist, I just play one on tv. Haha

for real though, I am debating trying this. Pulling a brand new engine apart is very disappointing.

Thank you, I will show this to my service person. Hopefully it will prevent this “I’ve never seen this on a 3.0 argument”.

That one I posted was old, here is the most recent version of it. It basically just adds the new rangers to the notice also.

Phasers are a common issue so you shouldn't have any problem. they know about it for sure. Good luck to you! Let us know how it goes.
