Yeah for sure. The new updated 2.3 in the mustang uses the same style now also. I believe the Ranger was the first 2.3 released to use this type of pump.
I know some Mustang guys swear by deleting to keep the block from windowing on the #3 cylinder. I doubt I'm ever going to do it on the Bronco though. And now we're wayyy off tangent.

Far better than a timing belt, especially one bathed in oil.

I see enough timing belt failures at work to know I don't want one driving a vehicle oil pump...

6 years in since Ford switched to the oil pump belt design and I haven't seen a single failure on any V6 Ecoboosts or the 5.0, so I don't think there is too much to worry about.

The only ones that have had any issues were the 1.0 ecoboosts, and that belt destruction was caused by a poorly designed belt tensioner, not the belt itself. Those are also the only ones that utilize a tensioner for the belt.

@Ducati1098 What is the service life for this belt? Is there a reasonable way to inspect it?

I'd have to look it up. Not sure if Ford has an interval for it or not.
No good way of inspecting it really. Probably the "easiest" way is to remove the front cover.

If anyone is having their cam phasers replaced at higher mileage, I'd recommend asking your dealership to take a peek at the belt while they are there.

That does sound like a good test. At least if the magic juice is eating the belt it should show up.
If anyone is interested in continuing the experiment with the 2.7 belt soaking in in a 50/50 mix of motor oil and fr3 nano lubricant let me know where to send it.

While I have moved on to another vehicle, I do believe the findings could be interesting. So far the special brew/belt is holding up 100 percent as as far as i can tell.

😮 you’re no longer a Bronco owner? Did your phasers start rattling and spook you? What did you move on to and how was your Bronco value at sale/trade? I might be interested in the belt brew for the hell of it…

I am no longer a bronco owner……this is true. I bought new and had it for just more than a year. The cam phasers worked perfectly after a splash of nano lubricant. No worries there…..zero.

By far the most fun vehicle to drive i have owned.

That said, the hardtop was starting to develop cracks. Also, i was not completely sold on the longevity of the 2.7 turbos.

I went back to a new 2023 F150 5.0 which i have owned many. Prices were right. The dealer offered me $5k more than i paid for the bronco (separate cash deal), i was going to keep the bronco. Carmax offer was the worst. Ended up with Ford x-plan.

DM me an address and i will put this belt in an envelop.
