A friend is letting me tag along for a bunch of dyno runs on his hot rod, and I get a free one on my WT 2.7L; perfect timing now that my main mods are done. Problem is it’s tomorrow morning, and I’ve got a full tank of 87 - wish I had 93 in so I can activate my full tune for the run. Does anybody recommend a canned booster like from VP Racing or someplace to juice up my tank and improve or simulate higher octane? I’ve never used that stuff before. Thanks! And I’ll post results here when done.

Edit: RESULTS (details further down thread)
Rear wheel 275 hp at 4800 rpm & 335 ft-lbs torque at 3980 rpm

Throw a full can of octanium unleaded in there if you want. or like 2 gallons of E85 if you have it near. Either way that will bump the octane. But you should be running 93 on a 2.7 no matter what. 91+ at least.

This all great help, thanks. I'll try to find E85 at the one or two places Yelp says it is available near the shop (MTI in SW Houston), if not available I'll run into DaZone and pick up some Boostane or the VP stuff.

Yeah, if you can e85 is definitely the way to go.

I tune Coyotes and a few other brands. But im not going to try and get into how these handle spark and fueling, but I can tell you there is headroom in the OEM tune to add spark when higher octane is used. You are 1000% leaving power and tq on the table when you cheap out and get 87. On these TT motors, it wants 93. Even with 93, they ride the knock sensors.

You really should be running E20-e30 blend if you want a clean, knock free power curve through the RPM. When I know Im going to do something like tow, I will use my calc and blend 93 and E85 up to e30. Stock fuel system has tons of headroom for it and the widebands correct fueling with no issue. And at e30 with factory spark limits, the 2.7 is free to make all the power its capable at any airload with zero KR (knock retard).

But do what you want.

I’ll pump 93 into my 2.7 and enjoy… it’s only a Bronco.
I have the 5.2 for horsepower fun, but I don’t understand the need to try and make the 2.7 into a power horse… just enjoy the Bronco capabilities as a 4x4, not a high performance vehicle.
Just me and as always………. I may be WRONG…!!!!

Well you're not wrong on this one lol. I dont see how folks can tow or go hard/heavy wheelin and not use 93. Going out on a summer day all day with it heat soaked, running BIG airloads on the engine while feeding it shit low octane gas is like idiot stuff.

When I do go wheelin at some point here soon, I will for sure run e20 at least. Thats not too far above 93 e15 that normally comes out of the pump. But mixing it up to e20 gives you an effective octane rating of like 95/96. Thats a HUGE help especially for a boosted engine.

You’re right! I’m not on the journey for sick power, and other than heavy pedal around town or long heavy hauls, I’m not jacked up at the top of my tune most times. But I figured with this lucky chance on a dyno, see what the upper end output is, why the hell not. I’m not expecting ++xxx RWHP. Then worst case I can post outraged YT videos like “The CAI Myth” and “Don’t waste your money on THIS popular tune”!

Anyway it’s all for fun. Having that test sheet and slapping on a “performance” bumper sticker sure isn’t going to make me @MWILD or @Ducati1098, that’s a different level!

Yep, no different than modding any other vehicle.
I have a c6 z06 also, it’s not like I needed the bronco to make big power, I just did it because it’s fun 🤷‍♂️
Pretty easy to understand if you’re a car guy at all.

OK....what part of Ford powertrain engineering do you work for again?

You are 1000% leaving power and tq on the table when you cheap out and get 87.
That's WAY different than saying that I need to run 93. As for your comment "cheap out," how is that "cheapening out"? There's no damage being done; the truck has plenty of power and torque with 87, so why should I pay for more (assuming there's more to be had in the first place) if I don't need it??

Or did I "cheap out" by not buying a Braptor, for example? By your logic, I "cheapened out" and left power on the table by buying a 2.7. What do you say to those who bought the 2.3?

On these TT motors, it wants 93. Even with 93, they ride the knock sensors.
Ummm....no, it doesn't "want" 93. Not by any stretch.

You really should be running E20-e30 blend
"Should be"??? I'll follow the manufacturer's documented lead, if you don't mind. No E20 or E30, thank you very much.

if you want a clean, knock free power curve through the RPM. When I know Im going to do something like tow, I will use my calc and blend 93 and E85 up to e30. Stock fuel system has tons of headroom for it
I somehow doubt that.

But do what you want.
Right back at ya.
