Did the 2.7 engine improve?

I am considering trading in my 4 door 2.3 heritage standard to either a 2 door heritage limited or a 4 door wild track. Both these options come with 2.7 engines and both are 2024 MYs. I know previous year models with the 2.7 had cam phaser issues so I’m wondering if the issue was fixed with newer model years? For some reason I am worried about getting a bad engine if I end up trading

Do you know what Ford changed on the 2.7 between '16 and now? My '16 F-150 has the 2.7 and it out towed a '97 F-350 with the 351 (5.8) every time. It's been an excellent engine (168,000 miles and counting).

I don’t know what changed really and I’ve heard great things about the 2.7 but seems like the cam phasers failure has been a common occurre

Maybe I've been blessed with mine. I didn't want to sell my '97, but with the F-150 doing everything it could, just more efficiently, it made sense. The only problem I've had was the 10% ethanol 87 octane causing discombobulations over time (I thought the droughts had jacked up the road surface), but easily corrected by sea foam and a tank full of high grade. Other than that, the 2.7 does way more than what us in Gen X ever expected a 6- shooter, non-300 Straight 6 to be capable of.

There are a few things that are certain in life. Death, taxes, and bad cam phasers. Ford ain't gonna fix that shit.

I just found out via another long time Ford guy that the 2.7 got re-done in '18, which explains the issues that my '16 F-150 isn't having. Maybe 2023Bronco can reckon that. My BB is 2.3

You wouldn't think Ford would jack with them too much since they were powerful and efficient (for their size), but Ford did go to a 10-speed automatic transmission from the 6-speed with minimal benefit, so .....

No issues with my 2016 or 2023 2.7

If you search long enough you can find problems with anything.
That's true. Like you, the 2.7 in my '16 F-150 has been an excellent engine. I'd rather spend $10,000 in a preventative maintenance overhaul of the '16 in 10 years (to add another 200,000 miles) than buy a different machine. In full disclaimer, my 2.7 is mated to a 6-speed transmission (auto), which is ideal for towing. I have to be careful when there's no wind because it'll have a 22' camper in the high 70s (mph) if you aren't watching things. They're that good.

I had the cam phaser problem at 9k miles. ‘22, built in March.

After that, I cashed in Ford points and a few hundred dollars to get a 7 year, 100k extended warranty through Granger. Very happy with my 2.7, but glad to have the extra coverage. It’s a great engine when it’s not ticking on startup like a 1970s diesel.

Gotcha thank you! I’ll be leasing mine for 36 or 39 months so I don’t think I’ll need extended coverage. I just don’t wanna deal with having to leave it at the shop for weeks on end
