My son punched this crack into my dash today. The passenger airbag is behind it, but did not deploy. I’ll get it replaced but curious if this is a high priority safety concern or if it can wait a couple of weeks. Also, any insight on how much this will cost to repair? I’m a recent widow and haven’t had income in 13 months so, you know, I’m so happy to throw more money out the door.

I'm no expert, internet advice.... I wouldn't worry about it safety wise. I'd get to it when I could.

You can definitely wait on that, shouldn't affect anything. I've also seen some vinyl overlays for that area that could help cover it up and make it less noticeable if you don't want to spend too much money on it just yet

Thank you for this link because I know looking at that crack will make me angry every time I drive.
Will the vinyl overlay prevent the airbags from deploying should I get in an accident?

I would get a professional opinion of course, but that appears to be the airbag seam, where the dash is weakened for airbag deployment and would break apart there anyways. I would imagine this is primarily a cosmetic issue. I might get one of the vinyl overlays if you are comfortable with that, to cover the crack and prevent any contamination (water or dirt getting in there, etc)..

You are fine. The dash is meant to crack open obviously when the airbag deploys. The vinyl is not going to hinder the deployment of the airbag.

Half of us are driving around with splits on the driver side. I'm thinking it's still safe.
Thanks for reminding me of my crack around the horse that Ford claims is my fault lol even though it's been that way since brand new.

They replaced my steering wheel center under warranty on my 2021 Outer Banks for the very same crack

Did you have to do anything special to prove it or they replaced it no issue? Mine said it is cosmetic and isn't Ford issue

I had mine replaced under warranty as well, mine cracked the first time I honked at an idiot coming into my lane. They replaced it without question.

Really? How is everyone getting splits on the driver side?

I don’t need to worry about my airbag spontaneously popping out? My dog sits in the passenger seat often.

I hadn’t thought about water and debri getting in there. Thank you for bringing that up.
