I have an 25 Expedition, 23 Bronco, and 21 F150. CarPlay audio quality on Expedition is messed up, but it does connect. But all of a sudden, my Bronco and F150 will NOT connect to CarPlay. I got the Bronco to force connect yesterday after power cycling my phone. I didn't drive the F150 for a while and when I got in the truck today it was doing the same thing as the Bronco. I did delete the phone and add the phone back again. Same issues. Will not connect. When I use a cable, the Bronco tells me that the phone is unresponsive. Is anyone else having these problems?

Sounds like the phone could be the problem. Have you updated the OS? Also, are you running a VPN on your phone?

I would love to blame Ford as their technology issues really piss me off, but I do think my recent issues are phone related. I always keep the latest phone updates installed. I don't use VPN's. They seem to cause too many problems. I deleted the phone on my F150 and reinstalled the phone. CarPlay came up after that. But the Bronco didn't work after doing the same thing. I am ok fighting technology issues as long as they are consistent. These issues do not seem to do so ....

I use VPN on my iPhone and have no issues connecting CarPlay in my bronco.

I updated the iOS last week and lost CarPlay - did the following and rebooted for a good fix:

1. Check Screen Time Restrictions
Updates sometimes toggle a "restriction" setting that prevents CarPlay from launching.
  • Go to Settings > Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions.
  • If restrictions are on, tap Allowed Apps and ensure CarPlay is toggled ON.

2. Forget and Re-pair
Corrupted connection profiles are a common cause after updates. Resetting the handshake between the car and phone often fixes this.
  • On iPhone: Go to Settings > General > CarPlay, select your vehicle, and tap Forget This Car.
  • On Car: Remove your iPhone from the list of paired devices in the infotainment settings.
  • Pro Tip: Some users find that renaming their iPhone (Settings > General > About > Name) before re-pairing forces the car to recognize it as a brand-new device, bypassing cached errors.

3. Check Siri and Connectivity Settings
CarPlay requires Siri to be active to function properly.
  • Go to Settings > Siri & Search and ensure "Listen for 'Hey Siri'" and "Allow Siri When Locked" are both ON.
  • VPNs: Disable any active VPN on your phone, as these frequently interfere with the wireless handshake required for CarPlay.

4. Hardware and Cables (Wired Only)
If you are using an iPhone 17 (released late 2025), ensure you are using a USB-C data cable. Some charging-only cables will charge the phone but will not support the data transfer necessary for CarPlay.

There is TSB for connection issues. We took our 2024 in just last week and the dealer did a software update. So far no problems.

Good tip on renaming the phone. I will try that.

Wildtrac24 - is that update a dealer only update or will it come OTA?

I hope it fixes my Expedition problem. You can't even use the phone with CarPlay. What a mess

The dealer didn’t say which TSB or how broad it is. When it comes to CarPlay and iPhone issues I always push the dealer/shop check to see if there are any updates available.
