While you are right about FE’s sounding great you are wrong about them being big blocks. They are “Midsize Blocks” and the best engines ever made in my opinion.

Great Cars!!!!
I'd argue that between 1958 and about 1965 the Ford Edsel V8's were absolutely big blocks. Sure by the mid/late 60's you get the 427's sorted and bigger "big blocks" came available. Most of them evolutions of the wisdom gained by the FE's dominating their time period.

Like the Flathead V8 being the unquestioned king of the streets...... Until the day the Rocket 88's came out and fatties suddenly became chopped liver.

I do tend to look at things strictly within the year they came out to see how cool they were. Time and progress have no finish line and no winner.

PSA for anyone running Icon XD tie rods, the “L” & “R” markings molded into the item is apparently backwards. Start at post #274 and read on. (And yes, mine are installed backwards)

It sucks but there's always teething problems. If true, it's crazy that Icon didn't supply casting info for side and even crazier the caster arbitrarily added it.

FWIW, it was your unfortunate experience yet adding to group wisdom that aided others. Myself included..... She's getting them installed (correctly) as we speak as I'm staring down a spinal surgery and unable to wrench.

4' lift looks bad-ass! The Race Red Ford Fusion looks like a smooshed little exotic next to a lifted 2-door Bronco!

Agreed, welcome to the aftermarket maturation of a new platform. I’m 100% confident that I’m not the only one who installed or had them installed backwards. I’m not much of a mechanic, I’m sure it would not be hard to swap them. However since I don’t have a boot clamping tool, prior experience pulling a tie rod, and it would need a new alignment I plan to take it to a trusted shop and have it done. Just salty about the time & additional $ to make it happen.

Happy to help you get them installed “correctly”, let’s hope we actually know Left from Right now. 🤪

Good luck with your surgery, that’s no fun.

I agree with a lot of that but you have to ask yourself what transmission will bolt to an FE. Good luck with the surgery, pray everything goes well.

Ha ha!!!! In a 3rd gen T-bird your transmission options are:
  • 3-speed cruise-o-matic MX
  • Or
  • 3-speed cruise-o-matic MX
Not to mention horrific gearing in the T-birds. They were highway cruisers.
Gears are swapped and she will lay rubber. But I keep a spare MX for just such an occasion. Can still find them for $200-300 and not worth rebuilding. C4's are a wet-dream.

Appreciate the kind words and dare I say, sounds like it would be fun to hang out in the garage together and talk cars while maybe having a beer or two. All your opinions shared are right on! Just that the 3rd gen T-bird, unfortunately, locks you into not many options without enough fabrication to just pick a better chassis...
It's okay though, her older sister is due for some reassembly and hitting the road this summer. That 2-door lifestyle!

Actually starting to feel like it might happen after getting my assembly line photo. Lights, wheels/tires and other stuff waiting.
Question for everyone. How accurate have the delivery date estimates been ? Mine is 3/14 - 3/23. Likely I’ll actually see it in that time frame ?

My Bronco took 72 days to deliver from the day it "shipped".
84 days if you count from the date of production.

Only had 8 delivery estimate changes and was lost in Chicago railyard for 62 days.

So yea, I would count it as iron clad, whatever Ford told you for delivery.

I posted this in the hard top thread, but figure it fits here, too. It was 85 and sunny earlier this week, today it's rainy and 45. I can't wait for it to warm back up - the TopLift makes life for us non-garagers so much easier.

Got a complete detail done today for tomorrow's charity car show tomorrow with my Dad. Exterior, interior and undercarriage completely cleaned. Whenever I need it done, I call and a team of 2 come to the house and spend about 2-2.5hrs on it.
