I just came back from a trip and had my car parked in the garage at the airport in Phoenix (terminal four), as I’m de-planing and turning on my phone, my wife texted me to tell me the airport police called her to tell her the car (‘24 bronco raptor) was almost stolen last night and they were trying to keep an eye on it but believed it would be gone tonight, and when can we get the car.

Good news is I got to the garage and it is still there. According to the cops, these are the most in demand cars by thieves in Arizona. They get taken back to Mexico and used by the cartel. If you don’t have a secondary alarm or kill switch, the car is as good as gone.

lol.... what does that mean; "almost stolen"? How would they know? AP parking security is worse than a mall cop.... Strange story....

Sorry this was Phoenix PD, not airport security. I didn’t talk to them, my wife did. They told her the car was being surveilled by multiple people. Why they didn’t intervene, I don’t know, maybe they saw it on camera

What is a kill switch and how does one go about installing it?

NM, I see what these are. Never occurred to me to look for one.

I agree! What is almost stolen? And then saying it might be gone tonight....aren't they using it to catch the crooks?

I think they meant they couldn’t prevent it from happening so we better get the car out of the garage. Is that difficult for you to understand?

Ok so the cops new it was a target to be stolen and they couldn't prevent it? It's difficult for me to understand why not.

Pretty simple actually - they don’t have the resources to watch it 24 hours a day. Phoenix is a pretty big city with a lot of crime but you probably don’t understand that either.

I used to work in Phoenix and I understand if you want to stop a crime about to be committed....you certainly can. There are plenty of ways without watching it 24 hours a day. I think this story is fiction rather than fact. Not well thought through I might add. A security alarm or kill switch won't stop motivated thieves.

As a matter of fact, the top stolen cars in the Phoenix area are as follows:

  1. Chevy Silverado (627)
  2. Hyundai Elantra (418)
  3. Hyundai Sonata (323)
  4. Kia Soul (309)
  5. GMC Savana (226)

Top 5 Stolen Vehicles January 2026
    1. Chevy Silverado (45)
    2. Hyundai Elantra (30)
    3. Hyundai Sonata (24)
    4. Kia Soul (24)
    5. Honda Civ
Don't see Bronco Raptor on that list.

Probably not enough Braptors sold to ever meaningfully compete on raw numbers, but that doesn’t mean it’s not a sought after vehicle. Most cars are stolen for parts, as it’s a lot harder to trace parts than a non-chopped car with a VIN. And the most in-demand parts are (logically) for the most driven cars, so that list makes sense. Doesn’t invalidate the likely reality that cartel-connected dudes like to boost Raptors when they find one unattended for a period of time.
