Keep us posted!
OK, the gears came in, and so far it's a mixed bag. The pinion dimensions are an exact match and the splines count is the same. But...the ring is too thick by about 0.20". I'm thinking it's because it's for a 3.73 and down carrier, usually they make the gears thicker to compensate. Ford and Jeep 3.73 carriers must be a little different.

Dang, sorry to hear that, but I appreciate you posting back. If it's just that much may be able to get a shop to machine off the ring just that little bit for not too much. Wonder if it's the same for the Ranger setup.

I need to get the non-locker carrier out and measure it one day versus the locker carrier as well, that would be some interesting data - not that you can do anything with the gearing on the non-locker, but most confirming if you are able to throw the e-locker/airlocker carrier in a non-locker rear end

The thought crossed my mind. Even if I paid them $100 I'm still coming out way ahead. I wish I had another Bronco/Ranger specific gear to compare against, or even another 4.88 Jeep gear for 4.10 and up carrier.

Digging into this some more, these guys explicitly state these Revolution gears will fit JL Wranglers and Broncos. https://www.xtreme4x4.me/en-us/prod...o-d44-220mm-revolution-gear-axle-d44-m220-488

Now, my new gears say JL on the box. Also from what I'm reading, the JL doesn't even have carrier breaks.

I suppose my Ranger ELD might be different from the Bronco one, which doesn't make any sense but then again, it's Ford. The part number is KB3G-4213-A which returns exactly zero related results on google.

These are the old school D44 carrier differences. My carrier matches neither, though it's closer to the 3.92 carrier at 2.390".

Hmm. I'd also note Dana 44 and Dana 44 AdvanTEK are two different things too. The older Dana 44 was a 8.5" rear end, the newer AdvanTEK is 220mm - so slightly different despite having an almost identical name. I'm sure you know that already, just posting for other folks who see your picture and don't realize it isn't the same as what's in our M220s

Also interesting, looking at Dana Aftermarket (Dana Pro Parts) -- I can't tell any difference between any of the Jeep AdvanTEK rings/pinions at all, other than the ratio - no warning about them not being more or less cross-compatible with the rear ends either.

But go do the same thing for the Bronco, and Spicer doesn't even carry just the Ring/Pinion set - just entire axles put together.

Not to say you can't get ring/pinion sets, just not from Dana Aftermarket.

It appears that Ranger and Bronco share the same ones - at least many sites market them as Ranger/Bronco compatible sets. But if I look up just a generic "M220" set - they are all Jeep.

I do know the Jeep doesn't use the same spacer plate in the locker coil, and some jeeps also have a locker feedback system to verify it engages, but haven't had the carriers side by side to see the difference.

This is interesting though, from https://www.drivetrainspecialists.com/dana/dana-m220/dana-m220-373-ratio-ring-and-pinion-set.html:

DANA M220 3.73 RATIO RING & PINION SET

FITS ADVANTEK M220 JL & JT MODEL REAR

ALSO FITS FORD BRONCO REARS WITH TRUTRAC 917A736 UPGRADE

(CALL FOR MORE INFO!)

Sounds like you could go to the LSD and get it to fit, but not sure I would recommend that - just an interesting note that might help figure this out. The Detroit TrueTrac lists as compatible with both Jeep and Bronco - same part number (917A736) - and also fits many m210s... curiouser and curiouser.

Now I know, but it's still all as clear as mud - thanks.

This shouldn't be so muddled, and if we could get some clarity folks could stop paying the Bronco tax on the rear ends at least. Dusty is going to send me his old 4.88 set from the thread you linked and I'll compare them.

@Brian_B I got the 4.88s from Dusty and compared them to my JL G2 gears - they look virtually the same. They're also stamped JL, so it looks like the final verdict is JL gears do fit Broncos.
