When walking out to the parking lot of the bowling alley last night I noticed my bronco got broken into from the driver side window. The window is completely smashed. They took some valuables inside. Super bummed but wondering how to get this fixed asap. Do I take it to any of the local body shops and ask them if they can replace it? Also would you claim insurance on this or just pay out of pocket so the insurance doesn’t increase the rate?

I’m in Los Angeles and would appreciate some recommendations of a reputable place where I can get this fixed.

Insurance covers broken glass. No charge. Would check what they would do first.

They aren’t stealing radios any more?
Some decades ago my car got broken in and they damaged the dash getting the radio out, in addition to the glass.
Pissed me off they didn’t send cops any more, just sent me a form to fill out. Apparently they had more important things to investigate and figured insurance would take care of it.

Sucks, but it could be worse, I had a thief/vandall smash out the passenger's window on my 2013 Mustang and they did $3,500 damage to the "A" pillar/door/roofline along the way.

Value of the stuff they stole? A pair of $50 sunglasses and a $300 leather jacket

Noise, attention, and intervention from vehicle owners during a break-in are deterrents, so alarms, or the appearance of an alarm, is a decent deterrent to amateur thieves, or folks engaging in crimes of opportunity.

Many insurance companies have free glass coverage. Mine does. No deductible or increase to insurance.
Beware. Your insurance company may not raise your rate but the claim will be logged in the national claims database maintained by LexisNexis. If you go to change insurance companies the new insurer may charge more due to those claims. That’s true of homeowners claims as well. My advice from a trusted insurance broker is to take the highest deductible offered by your insurance company and manage the small claims yourself to avoid premium creep.

I had this happen to me (in a non-Ford vehicle) some years ago in Delaware, so I cannot help with recommendations for repairs. I was upset about my losses, and I am sorry to hear about yours. BTW, the police officer who wrote it up for me said that they see a lot of these "smash and grab" incidents, and they tend to see more around the holiday season because thieves want to give their kids something nice for Christmas, etc. When the greatest gift that any child could have would be honest parents...

Sorry for your loss (OP), can be hard to manage at times, but I absolutely don’t leave any valuables that I can’t carry in my Bronco. Was something I had to get used to as my 2018 Raptor had the full oem alarm w/proximity sensors, etc. That truck would go nuts if I fully enabled the alarm with a window down and anyone walked by…

That really sucks, I hate thieves! I'd probably see what it costs before talking to insurance, and doubt I would file a claim because I don't want my rates to go up. As for the glass coverage that most are referencing, I think that might only be for windshields, not all glass.

(OP) Think about reporting it to the local LE as well. your decision. May have been 'rogue and vagabon' complaints in that area on the same date, and/or past break-in incidents reported by victims where LE has already identified suspects.

Use a glass shop and get some quotes.

Not to mention placing anything loose and of value in the cargo area of the vehicle so it can't be readily seen through a window.

Even spare change. The truly desperate will break a window just for a handful of change and think nothing of it.
