by any chance you parked in between two spots? I've seen that type of scratch on someone's car who took two spots back in my GTO days.
Not saying you deserved it, honestly asking because the scratch was an x with two lines by the sides. IXI

I was actually parked between 2 cars.

I might be inclined to park at the same spot, same time, same day, and sit in another vehicle with dark tint to see if it happens again, and then let the chips fall where they may if it does….

Your comment is completely irresponsible. It's NOT a thing in Colorado. I have owned cars here for 50 years and neither I nor anyone I know, has had this happen. Maybe it's time you throw the blanket on yourself instead of the entire state.

I know lol. Last time we were there I pointed out every Subaru I saw as a joke to my wife. After a handful of blocks she yelled at me to stop while laughing because I’m pretty sure I said it 60 times.

I don’t understand why some people are so into Subarus. I asked one time and got a lot of hand waving without any real reasoning. If I had to buy a Japanese vehicle, it would definitely be a Toyota.

When driving mostly older vehicles, for me it was nice never having to worry about that kind of stuff. But now having a couple of newer cars, I'm always scouting out the best place to park, away from any situation that looks dicey.

Hope you can get that scratch repaired decently.

For the record, I didn’t payout any of that sweet ADM this time. Sill-Terhar Ford in Broomfield, CO was great from reservation to delivery. There’s a doc fee but whatever, that’s pretty standard. There are still good dealers out there!
