Black diamond vs big bend 2 dr model

I ordered a Big Bend w/ 2.3L automatic. Added mid package and factory aux switches…quite enjoyable to drive and I’m averaging 23.1 mpg for the entire 4600 miles that I have on it. I have aftermarket wheels with 285/70-17’s.

I got my 2023 BB 2.3 auto 2dr with mid package off the lot last September so couldn’t do any options. It’s been great. I added rock rails, half roof rack, hitch receiver and mudflaps and changed the grill letters to carbonized gray like the grill (much better than white). We’ve done hundreds of miles on the gravel and rocky roads and the stock tires have been just fine. We live in snow country (5,300 elevation; central Idaho) so the narrower tires work great. I’ve been getting 25-26 mpg overall. I’m concerned about adding steel bumpers because they will weigh more than the plastic. Right now it feels pretty nimble, even with the 2.3.

Back when I was working thru all this, the HUGE diff was the auto 4x4...so when you hit slick spots, it might rescue you. In MN, that's a must. Regular 4x4 is for slick roads only....many times in the winter, roads are dry, but....those black ice spots.

Well, if you only drive in the summer, those 2-3 weeks, maybe. lol.....I just like it when black ice is possible or when it's slippery but not enough for 4H.

Looks like the only way to get the automatic 4x4 is to upgrade to the squach package which really is more than I want to spend.

I feel like one of those people who is happy they got the Base while they could. Now I can say I'm happy I got my Black Diamond when I did. BD was the lowest trim level for which you could get 4A as a standalone option. Doesn't appear to be the case anymore.

I also liked the steelies and the blue interior accents on the BD. 2-door Broncos carry the exterior paint color on the interior of the doors, and I liked that my Velocity Blue exterior went well with the interior colors.

If I were to buy now, I might get a Badlands. Or a Big Bend, with the Mid Package and MT (not allowed by Ford on the BD), just to get the heated seats.

4WD doesn't help with ice. If there is no traction, it doesn't matter how many drive wheels you have.
