My long story short is I currently have a 2017 Mazda Miata I am looking to part ways with. Have had some back problems that have made it harder to get in and out of more recently.

I looked at broncos when they first came out but availability was so out of wack I decided to hold off. I’m looking at doing something before winter now. I noticed ford has changed a lot with the packages and there seems to be a much smaller gap between these two trims now.

This will be a daily driver and very light off-roading. No rock crawling plans.

I was originally looking at the black diamond for the marine grade vinyl seats. But now those are standard on the big bend.

It looks like the mid grade package is no longer available on the black diamond with a M/T (at least according to the build and price) But it is available on the Big Bend with M/T

So I’d be putting the heavy duty modular bumper on both so the standard bumper has no bearing on which one I pic.

Not doing Sasquatch on either and would add rear locker to the bend.

It’s a decent monthly difference between the two and as far as I can tell I’m only losing out on the washout floor on the black diamond? Is there something else I’d be missing or should consider?

Yes I am planning to get the auxiliary switches from the factory. I like that the wiring is already ran. Forgot to mention that.

my only must have out of the mid package really was the heated seats because I live in Minnesota. I just found out the ford dealership here can install that for 600 which really negates that need now.

for the axel u was gonna do the 4.46. 4.7 requires Sasquatch. Not concerned about gas mileage….i know what I’m getting myself into in that regard for this vehicle 😂

I am leaning towards a 2 door bronco vs the 4 door.

Does the blackdiamond still come with the molle seats? Did they change this on the Big Bend. That is another thing I am interested in as I have a bunch of molle bags I wanted to use.

I appreciate any input. Thanks!

Get the Big Bend. Make sure and get the biggest ratio gearing you can, unless you want a little better highway mileage. The 4.27 or 4.48 I think are options. The 3.73 is very basic. And if you can, get the auxiliary switches factory. Quite a job to install those later.

Also, the Big Bend isn't very tall but if you're having back issues, you might get the steps factory as well. There's also after market steps of course, but the big flat ones can help with rock chips on the rocker panels.

I actually prefer my aftermarket Aux switches, since the are mounted next to the shifter. Install was easy.

3.73s are great for fuel economy for a daily driver, unless the OP wants to go 35" or larger tires.

Black Diamond has rock rails, bash plates, fuel tank skid. Your getting your money's worth for mild off roading. If your leaving it stock the tires are a substantial upgrade over the Big Bend.

Cosmetical I like the wheels and grill more.

Armourlite washout flooring is $650 on sale (equal of better than the BD flooring?)
Better

BD take-off rock rail can be found from free to $100 on craigslist/FB...... take-off factory running boards are about $100

The metal bumper on the BD is hardly distinguishable from the plastic bumper

I don't see much on the mid-package other that heated seats, that my accessories place would install for $300. Others would pay $5k for the $1600 package.

I dunno, $300 for switches installed at the factory seems like a decent deal and there's no install. Either can work fine, but if you want switches up in the overhead area, it's best to get them if you can IMO. And I personally don't want any more crap around my shifter; maybe up on the dash.

I was originally slated to get a BD, however I opted to go with the BB with a manual, mostly due to the option to get the signature LEDs. I optioned in the aux switches, upgraded to bigger tires, audio system, and a few other aesthetics, but that about sums up my build.

I also liked the wheels better on the BD. Didn’t catch the grill though and you’re right that one does look better. I couldn’t find any details on the tires other than size between the two models though.

I love my Black Diamond, Also has front and rear steel bumps (not plastic). Also love the marine interior.
is the big bend a plastic bumper on the rear? That does make a difference to me actually.

Yes one's the BB is plastic:

"Hey all. I've done some searching but couldn't find the answer to this specific question, so forgive me if it's already been asked.
.......
What I can't seem to tell is if the rear bumper is also steel? I believe the 2021 Black Diamond came standard with a steel rear bumper, but it is hard to tell in person as it seems to have a plastic cover, and I do not see anything about the rear bumper listed in my vehicle options. Does anyone know if the 2022 Black Diamonds still come standard equipped with a rear steel bumper?"

Back when I was working thru all this, the HUGE diff was the auto 4x4...so when you hit slick spots, it might rescue you. In MN, that's a must. Regular 4x4 is for slick roads only....many times in the winter, roads are dry, but....those black ice spots.

Looks like the only way to get the automatic 4x4 is to upgrade to the squach package which really is more than I want to spend.

I am going to recommend get what you really want and get it from the factory. You will be so pleased from day 1 and won't have to rush to do mods, wait for parts, etc. Yes it costs more but, I have been there done that and it is better to get what you want from the get go.

They don't offer base anymore, which is a shame as I have a Base Sasquatch, paid what I think was a LOT at the time but not really compared to current prices. I loved it the day it came in over 2 years ago and still love it and have only floor mats as the only mod.

BTW I have a Miata too and it's my daily driver. Bronco gets decent MPG for what it is but for a 70 mile round trip commute the Miata is so much better on gas. I had to add a soft (cut bath mat from Target) pad on the driver's lumbar of the seat and it made a huge difference to cushion my lower back. My back hurt too before I added it. And yes I am much more comfortable in the Bronco. I has the cloth seats though and I would highly recommend the cloth
