Base Sound System Upgrade/Build

Probably user error on my part, but I couldn’t get these connectors to plug into the stock harness for the 4” dash speakers, and I don’t see how they would work. The male blade part of the metra connector is much bigger than the receptacle in the stock harness. I was able to push the stripped wire ends from the speaker into the stock harness connector for now.

why are you guys so insistent on using these factory connectors that are not the right size? .... just cut and strip the wires and hook up directly directly to your new speakers

The metra 72-5600c connectors work, they fit (ish)... why cut a harness that didn't need to be cut?

It's a throwback from my motorcycle life, I always keep things "able to be put back to stock".

The rear speakers are filtered by the factory head unit itself, there is no need to install filters on the rear speakers.

I’m going to jump into Forscan today and see if I can turn that off. I’ve been driving around with 600hz in the back on top of that

When I had the Bronco in for an oil change I asked the service writer about this. I wanted to know if he could turn it on for the JBL sound bar, giving me full range outputs to the rear speakers. I don't want the sound bar, but could then tap the rears for a sub or replace the rear pods with something larger. He said that there is a chance that it won't work without the actual sound bar in place. Something about it looking for an address from the sound bar. Either way I would have to pay one hours labor ($130) to find out.

Well, this aspect of Forscan is above my pay grade. There is only a “AS BUILT” for the ACM module. I’ve never been good at coding. Haha. Not really sure where to look to adjust the frequencies sent to the rear speakers…anyone out there more versed in this? I guess the easy solution is just to pull the blockers out of the pods that I put in. Part of me just thinks the preset from the head unit is doing more harm than good and limiting the Infinity. But, I really have no idea what I’m talking about.

Bought some focal front 4" speakers. Spliced the wires in and out in 15 minutes.
Bam amazing difference. Plan to do the rear speakers soon.

Having just done this today, I wouldn't even say they fit (ish). They plain fit.

Both dash speakers with the 72-5600 can be installed and done in 15min from you opening your box from crutchfield.

Even a total dummy like me can do it, I'd damn near say this is a mandatory upgrade

My "ish" comment was due to the fact they don't snap in place, mostly

Helpful! I'll give these a try as well. Since they don't snap in place, I'm guessing a little electrical tape will be enough to get them to hold?

A good friend weaponized the sound system in his Wrangler with about 1500 watts and new speakers. He's a mechanical engineer and a serious audiophile, and I've already put him on retainer for when my BD arrives. Also following.

Obviously when the top is down the acoustics get diminished significantly, but with Amp driven speakers for the front, you can expect a LOT MORE sound even with the top is down on the highway. Having a decent front sound stage is everything.
Like i said, most people opt for 2way speakers both for the dash and kick panels, but I chose 2way for the dash and woofer for the kick panel.

Anyone else planning their audio upgrades yet?

Soon as I get my Bronco, I'm going to pull and measure the speaker mounting dimensions and start planning a build. Maybe someone will get theirs before and can get this info out to the public. One of my concerns is that the 4" speakers in the back just are not big enough to provide enough sound. Especially for the 4 door Broncos. That leaves you to pretty much need bigger housing to fit a bigger speaker. That means giving up some cargo room though and hindering your visibility a bit.

4" speakers should fit in the dash and rear pods and I can get some nice 6.5's for the kick panels.

Currently thinking all Polk Audio for the speakers

DB 402's and 652's for the kick panels.

Same here for Polk Marine eventually. Until you do that, you can get away with a "subtractive" EQ trick. Base down to about a quarter - third and pump the treble way up and the mid range, about half as much, whatever you like. This produces more gain for the mid high end to get that sparkly sound without getting too boomy.
