I decided I wanted some aux backup lights as the reverse lights don't quite cut it at night. I also liked the look of using a red backlit pod so they can act as additional running lights at night. For this reason I chose @Diode Dynamics SSC1 Sport Pods with red backlight in a wide cornering configuration.

I originally looked at the Baja kit but did not like having them placed on the spare. Additionally the kit from 4x4TruckLEDs that places them under the bumper towards the outside seemed to hang too low for my taste. This only left one spot; in the indent next to my hitch (Curt Hitch).

I built a custom harness that tapped into the running lights and reverse lights on the rear driver tail lamp. Thanks to @flip for his information posted here:
https://www.bronco6g.com/forum/thre...-signature-possible-process.12196/post-943782

My harness ties the backlight into the running light circuit, and split power (using a diode) to allow main lights to be powered by either an aux switch or automatically when in reverse. The pods themselves are mounted directly to the rear bumper; yes I had to drill a hole for each. I made a jig that aligned to my hitch so the holes were properly spaced. The SSC1 bracket is designed to also allow for side to side adjustment.

The lights have not been properly aimed and spaced evenly yet. I'm waiting for night time to do so.

That turned out great!

Love the mounting location!

I like this mounting location since they are kinda tucked up out of harms way.
Where is your trailer plug receptacle?

Don't have one. I just have an aftermarket Curt Hitch. I don't tow with this vehicle, I just use a bike rack.

Incredible job, @Bigmoose!

Is it okay if we use these images for future posts on our social media platforms?

For anyone interested in a similar setup, we just released our Reverse Light Wiring Kit (w/ running light). This is a fantastic option for mounting SSC1 or SSC2 LED pods with an included backlight feature!

Ford Bronco Backup lights installed using Diode Dynamics SSC1s 1637338021007

This wiring harness allows you to connect your Diode Dynamics lights with backlight functionality to your vehicle's wiring for simple, everyday operation. When paired with our LED pods with a white main beam and red backlight, this harness allows your lights to operate as an additional red accent light, with your tail lights, and then automatically switches to a high-power backup light when your vehicle is in reverse. The included toggle switch allows you to override the vehicle signals and turn on the main beam anytime.

I should also note this location might not work for anyone with the factory hitch as the trailer wiring will likely interfere.

Yes, not a problem.

I considered your harness but wasn't quite sure if it would suit my needs. It would be helpful if your site had a block diagram of the wiring setup for the harness.

Same goes for factory halogen reverse lights. I'm not 100% sure but the circuit MIGHT be different then if you have LED tails.

Great install though

True. It works with my halogens. I don't know if the current limits are lower with the LED setup or not.

Can you confirm the part number of the Curt hitch, if you've got it? Or a link to where you purchased. Have never bought a hitch before but want one for a bike rack as well.

You could remove the included switch and easily connect the leads to your factory auxiliary switches.

These videos might be helpful for reference.
