AC not repaired under warranty because bumper?

I've been voiding warranties since I could turn a wrench and have refused to learn my lesson yet. This post was meant to poll for any potential common issues or necessary workarounds/fixes before I go wrenching at it again next weekend. The bronco has 7000 miles with the majority being offroad, it's my favorite toy.

I spent maybe a third of the price to try out a part. It sounds way cooler (with the equally pointless BOV I slapped on a few weeks before ), my MPGs are up by .5 and butt-dyno says there's more throttle response but those last two could be the result of actually hearing the engine breathe.

I'll probably swap it for a new Injen if I can't clear the code with it, but the sound alone is worth keeping it IMO.

My 23 (July delivery) lost all refrigerant at about 2500 miles. Leaking condenser. R&R been fine since. But still odd the AC system failed to begin with

Show me(you) the proof. Sounds like a shady dealer. Making 700 is better than than the 100 Ford might pay them.

i'm always surprised when a dealership tries to deny warranty work. they get paid for the work from Ford, so why turn down income assuming it's a proper claim?

That's because of what the manufacturer pays the dealer is nowhere near what the customer has to pay.

Just expecting Ford to fix Ford stuff, not my own.

Wondering if anyone has any experience with AC issues on their bronco. Long story short, mine has been at the dealer for over a week. Yesterday the service writer calls me to say there is nothing wrong with my AC system (no leaks or damage), but whoever installed the bumper/winch "let out" all the refrigerant.

First, I installed the bumper. If I had somehow opened a nozzle on a high pressure gas system I would have noticed.

Second, there is supposedly no damage so somehow a bump against something near the bumper area is enough to completely discharge the AC system of an offroad vehicle? That doesn't sound right.

Maybe I'm wrong and this makes perfect sense to somebody, but if I'm being billed over $700 for it I need it to make sense to me.

That does not make any sense. What’s really sad is that you would think Ford dealers would want to satisfy their customer base, but there are so many reports of dealers just being tards.

i've heard dealerships claim that ford's warranty reimbursement rate is less than the dealership's shop rate, so it's more profitable to work on other stuff

That's certainly a trend I've observed in my 25 years of owning Fords.

Did your A/C work for a while after the bumper? If so, something may have rubbed a hole in a line or in the condenser and let the refrigerant out. Were there any parts charged out on their estimate? If so, that’s probably what happened.

There could be a slow leak and it will happen again. If it does they will need to repair it under warrantee. If it doesn't leak its a mystery, what happened to the refrigerant? AC leaks almost never fix themselves.

Write a poor google review and mention everything you've said. It gets their attention.

I'm certified in my state to do automotive AC work, and I can tell you from experience that the smell of leaking refrigerant is incredibly awful—and that's intentional so you know when there's a leak. If you happened to remove one of the caps and then pressed the tire-like valve while installing a bumper, that could explain it, but it's so unlikely that it’s hard to believe.

Side note: Calling Ford was way more helpful than working with the forum account. Calling and getting to the right person got you someone who actually cares and can do something.
